Boxing Day Hamper?

Okay, so I already do a pre-xmas shoebox with themed/seasonal Yankee Candle, hot choc and advent calendar skeleton (IYSWIM?) that our Elf on the Shelf 'Delivers' to DS at the start of December.

We also do the CEH filled with the usual, jimjams, hot choc, DVDs etc.

Thinking it might be nice to extend this with a Boxing Day Box? Makes sense with the name and everything, but this is as far as I've got! What could I put in this? and should it be from the Elf saying cheerio?

Boxing Day for bubs hamper? Grin

ginslinger · 15/10/2013 11:34

maybe get some nice non-xmas pjs because it's going to be boring wearing xmas things after xmas.
Do a box theme - a box set of dvds?

Grin

Thanks for the replies! I see your point with non-xmas jimjams... but I want to keep the magic going... usually the family are already bored by boxing day!Sad

We always had a tradition of Boxing day gifts hung on the Christmas Tree. Little things - and silly stuff for adults. Hanging onto the Tree meant it really wasn't feasible to have heavy/expensive stuff .....so it stayed silly. but was a nice antidote to Boxing Day anticlimax.
Makes a change from the hamper concept (and maybe the elf leaves stuff on the Tree when it goes?)

I see what you mean - maybe you could do it as a lead up to the easter bunny? Start with a box of creme eggs? Just so that they know that there's going to be more presents and chocolates.

[include a sick bag]

Lizzylou · 15/10/2013 11:41

Just do one for yourself with a big bottle of gin and some tonic in.

ginslinger · 15/10/2013 11:42

actually, you could probably hang some rather nice jewellery from the xmas tree

but this is getting off the subject of Boxes for Bubs

Lizzylou · 15/10/2013 11:45

Oh, is it for the kids?
We don't do the Elf thing.
Couldn't the naughty pixie (for instance, could be the evil imp or summat) bring gin? And a lie in? And clean the house?

KatoPotato · 15/10/2013 11:45

Hrmmm...I already lay 'Robin eggs' around the house throughout December. Perhaps I could pretend there's been a merger with the EB (easter bunny)

You could start the countdown to next Christmas on Boxing Day? Keep the magic alive?

Lizzylou · 15/10/2013 11:46

You lay robin eggs?
Have you escaped from one of those shows Rihanna likes to watch?

KatoPotato · 15/10/2013 11:46

I admire your defense of the gin Lizzy

Fear not, I shall have plenty!

Lizzylou · 15/10/2013 11:47

Sorry.
You lay robin eggs around the house? Seriously?

ginslinger · 15/10/2013 11:48

the robins eggs are such a lovely idea Kato. I bet your DC feel really special.

KatoPotato · 15/10/2013 11:49

Oh not literally! Yikes!

I just place them around. They are just MINI EGGS.

We do this. It's a tradition in east Surrey.
I usually include
Chocolate
Gin
DVDs
A pre-valentines day card
A model of the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang to keep then scared shitless until next year.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 15/10/2013 11:53

Ooh, the model of the child catcher is our elf on the shelf.

I find it terrifies the children a treat Grin

Lizzylou · 15/10/2013 11:57

Grin was in awe of your devotion to the festive season and erm, your pelvic floor there Kato.

Pagwatch · 15/10/2013 12:05

TBH if the children are not wetting themselves with fear, well it's just not the festive season.

ginslinger · 15/10/2013 12:13

Not even a real robin

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/10/2013 12:15

Make sure you decorate the box with tinsel

Pagwatch · 15/10/2013 12:16

If she really loved her bubs it would be a real robin...

KatoPotato · 15/10/2013 12:18

Could I paint a sparrow? There's plenty of them in the garden. The magpies still eat the trampoline depsite MIL tying foil takeaway trays to the trees. I couldn't wrangle a MAGPIE.

KatoPotato · 15/10/2013 12:23

SERIOUSLY though. I might include an iTunes gift card so we can buy more APPS.

Painting will take ages.

Catch one. Get a can of glitter spray and give it a quick light coat. Nail it to the mantlepiece and it will chirrup for much of the post Christmas period.

It will be quite the conversation piece.
