All 4 of my dc are getting 16 presents. I'm worried it is too much but they don't get anything other than on there bdays and xmas so its really to last them. They are getting toys, pyjamas, books etc. How many presents do you feel is enough for your dc?

I think threecackles is right that people have different priorities and it is each to their own regarding what you spend.
We actually buy DS very little throughout the year so Christmas is a big thing for him WRT accumulating "stuff". Also as he has got older his desire for plastic toys has been surpassed by his need for technical gadgetry Hmm

Arisbottle · 12/10/2013 16:16

They get a present, a book and some pyjamas.

They get a stocking which has little bits in, sweets, fruit and small things , usually under £2 each.

FarOverTheRainbow · 12/10/2013 16:18

I tend to get whatever I think DD will like to what I can afford. I try and find a lot of good deals so memo net goes further Andi start shopping really early

Stillhopingstillhere · 13/10/2013 08:19

My ds has his stocking with about 10 small toys / sweets and then I think he will have about 10 under the tree. He hasn't really got a main present this year, last year he had a bike but this year there isn't anything 'big' he needs. I suspect next year when he's 5 we will be getting in to electr

Stillhopingstillhere · 13/10/2013 08:20

Posted too soon!
Electronic device territory so this year he's having lots of toys.

LauraChant · 13/10/2013 08:23

Like Ariane above mine get one main present, eg a bike, from us, and stockings with bits and bobs like card games, crayons etc.

But they also both get a present from each other, and presents from their three aunts, two sets of grandparents, two great aunts and until last year, my two cousins as well, so I think they get plenty!

I think it depends on iffy are big or small presents. If it is a mixture then it's fine. I usually get quite a lot of presents for my children closure to 20 each but it's a mixture of things they want like toys and games and things they need such as underwear, pj's, clothes etc.

My children are the same, they rarely get things other than occasions or unless they have earned it.

NoBloodyMore · 13/10/2013 08:47

I aim for 10 each and £200 budget each, they're all having scooters each and then the younger 2 are getting a wooden kitchen to share, DC3 won't be 2 so he's getting the kitchen a scooter and then I'm wrapping all the kitchen accessories for him and just a ball and a book so although he'll look like he's got a lot most of it will be linked to his kitchen.

It's his birthday in feb so he won't be getting much for that as he doesn't need anything.

magichamster · 13/10/2013 08:50

I've really never counted how many presents my dc's get. They tend to get a big present - last year they had bikes, and a few other bits and pieces from books to pyjamas, and a stocking with small stuff like new toothbrushes in. We always get a new family board game too.

I don't really buy toys other than birthdays and christmas, and as their birthdays are not long after Christmas, there's usually loads of stuff they need. And I buy throughout the year and put stuff away.

42notTrendy · 13/10/2013 08:57

We get ds one big present, around £50. Then if I see other things I think he'd like I get them, but usually only 3 or 4 things. We have started a tradition of buying him new pjs to wear on Christmas Eve (Mumsnet tip!) that we tell him is an early gift to get into and go to sleep quick so the rest of his gifts will arrive!
He's lucky enough to have 2 sets of fab grandparents and a very generous godfather that usually spoil him rotten with a big gift and lots of stocking fillers.

Mojavewonderer · 13/10/2013 09:53

We don't have a set amount of presents, it's not a competition on who can give their kids the most at Christmas!
This year we happen to be spending £250 on each child (we have 6 to buy for) we are buying them all the same gifts so there are no arguments. They are getting a 3DS each plus a game, pjs and a chocolate filled stocking (which I have already bought). They will get various presents and gifts off other family members so we feel that it's quality more than quantity because last year they had 100's of presets each and some are still in there bloody boxes and are untouched.

hermioneweasley · 13/10/2013 10:02

I've never thought about it. They each get a present from
Santa and a main present from us, priced about £30-40. Then a stocking each plus other bits and pieces. We do new PJs on Xmas eve. It's probably quite a few individual things, but probably about £100£120 per DC which seems quite tight compared to many!

They also get gifts from family and friends, so maybe 10 significant presents in total plus other bits.

hermioneweasley · 13/10/2013 10:04

We don't buy them stuff apart from Xmas and birthdays. They both get pocket money so can save up for toys they want inbetween.

I can see I am definitely tight!

wamabama · 13/10/2013 10:25

We don't have any family to buy for ours, the little family we do have just give money or vouchers and our DC are toddlers so that isn't exactly enthralling for them... so it's down to us to basically get all their gifts.

We don't really get toys and such throughout the year aside from birthdays so I always think it's justified for us to go a bit mad at Christmas. We get approx 20 presents per child, have 3 DC. A lot of them are books though!

CircassianLeyla · 13/10/2013 10:52

We get about 6 tree presents, which are usually stocking type things, books, magazine, quiz cards, brain box stuff, Lego. This year they are getting a present for each other too.

Then they will get a present from us. These range from bikes to sub buteo.

We do DVD , pjs etc

CircassianLeyla · 13/10/2013 10:53

Whoops posted too soon.

They do get largish presents from my parents, brother and two cousins.

Forgot we always have a new set of clothes under the tree too.

mamaduckbone · 13/10/2013 11:03

We made a decision last year to do one big present for each ds, one from each to the other, a book and new pajamas plus stockings. But we have a large family so they also have presents from grandparents and aunts and uncles. Mine like the stockings best anyway, aside from the one big thing that they really want. And by big I mean a big leg set for ds1 and playmobil castle for ds2, so not excessive. But that's just us...everyone makes their own choices based on income and ethics!

Idespair · 13/10/2013 11:17

It depends on cost per present. I tend to buy a few things in the £10-£20 price range rather than a large expensive item in case I get it wrong!

Kelly281 · 13/10/2013 11:24

It will vary year to year, but I do like to have a big pile of presents for DD on Xmas morning. I'd say she has around 20 presents from Santa/parents plus the fruit in her stocking.

She probably gets around 10-15 additional presents from our families, but most of these are received a couple of days after Xmas.

IvanaCake · 13/10/2013 11:53

My dds probably get about 20 each, but a lot of it will be cheap books/playdoh/colouring book etc. One main present each.
