Tangled or Cinderella for 4yo DD

Any opinions? DD is doing a Rapunzel dance in ballet at the moment so I was going to get her the DVD and a fancy dress costume for either her 4th birthday which is in a few weeks or Christmas. But then I noticed the Tangled DVD is rated PG whereas Cinderella is only U. And whilst both dresses are £14.99 in Argos at the moment, the Cinderella one is part of the "2 for £19.99" deal but the Tangled one isn't.

I think that the baddie in Tangled is a bit scarier than Cinderella, and your DD might like all the animals in Cinderella.

However, if you think she's going to get obsessed with whatever you get, get Tangled. It's much easier to watch repetitively.

PS She's a first child and, whilst not a particularly PFB, hasn't been exposed to as many programmes and things as a child with older siblings would be. Her idea of a scary or sad programme at the moment is Peter Rabbit on CBeebies.

Cinderella to start with. My DD got it when she was 2yo and loved it. I bought Tangled when she was 3. I love it and so does DH but DD prefers Cinderella (and Peter Pan at the moment).

Tesco do Both Cinderella & Rapunzel dresses for £12

GrandPoohBah · 11/10/2013 10:30

In that case, Cinderella :)

20wkbaby · 11/10/2013 10:31

Tangled! Much better imo. Even the parents and grandparents like to watch it. As for scary my DD is scared at a lot of PG films but not this one. Plus it is funny which I find missing from a lot of Disney films.

20wkbaby · 11/10/2013 10:32

Btw Morrisons are doing a deal on DVDs including Cinderella and Tangled.

Rufus44 · 11/10/2013 10:37

Tangled! Tangled! Tangled!

Cinderella is a much gentler film though

Coveredinweetabix · 11/10/2013 10:43

Thank you for all of your opinions. I think she'll need something gentle to start off with so we'll go for Cinderella for her birthday and can always progress on to Tangled for Christmas or her next birthday.

From the sounds of it like others have said she might be best with cinderella but I also have to say tangled is awesome. I would watch it on my own and sometimes find myself randomly singing the songs. Dd loves it!

Tangled! My 2 year old is obsessed by rapunzel. Cinderella didn't seem to grip her imagination the way tangled did. Plus the soundtrack is brill

jamtoast12 · 11/10/2013 17:02

Tangled is the better movie IMO but its a newer movie and whilst popular last year in terms of toys etc,I don't think it'll be a disney favourite like Cinderella will be. Mine were obsessed with tangled when it came out but now, a few years later, they will go back to Cinderella and not to tangled. Both are as scary as each other I think but the pace and story is easier in Cinderella.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 11/10/2013 17:05

Tangled! Much less wishy washy. My 3yo, who is a complete wimp when it comes to scary scenes, loves it. I didn't even realize it was a pg.

SunnyRandall · 11/10/2013 19:50

Tangled. Bloody love it. Max the horse is my favourite film animal EVER. And I always cry when they're on the boat watching the floating lights and start singing.

Dd had it for her 4th birthday and we must have watched it a gazillion times. Including today.

Guitargirl · 11/10/2013 19:54

We went to watch Tangled in the cinema in 3D when it first came out. DD was just over 4 I think - the Christmas when she was in Reception she only wanted Rapunzel things. We went to Kensington Gardens to watch the parade when Rapunzel was welcomed as an official Disney princess. DD was absolutely beside herself to see Rapunzel in her carriage. She's kind of grown out of it now which I am a bit gutted about tbh - I love Rapunzel!

Tangled - but then I watched on my own in bed last night!

It's funny, sweet and beautifully animated.

MiauMau · 11/10/2013 20:20

Another vote for Tangled. Cinderella is a terrible role model for little girls, it's also harder to relate to as it was made in 1950.
You can also take her to watch Frozen, as it's coming out at the end of November.

Coveredinweetabix · 11/10/2013 20:22

Aaahhh!!! Stop, stop, stop all of you suggesting Tangled. I bought Cinderella for DD at lunchtime. I will put Tangled on her Christmas list.

Sorry, I should have also thanked you all for your opinions! I love the fact that on MN people take the most minor concerns and share their thoughts. I hadn't expected more than a couple of people to bother. I just would have been more grateful if those of you who had posted since lunchtime had supported Cinderella!

Definitely add Tangled to the Xmas list. Rapunzel is feisty!
