What age did your DC stop playing with toys...and what did you buy them?

DD is 9 and stopped playing with toys years ago. She'll still build lego but that's about it. Last year I bought her a sewing machine and she wanted a flower press and craft items for her birthday, friends and relatives kindly added to this and we are now at total saturation point with art and design. She has an ipod and shares our gadgets so don't want to buy more electrical things. Having said this as there are no toys filling up the place she doesn't have a lot of 'stuff' compared to her friends, so not spoilt iyswim.

Am stuck for this xmas. She wants a suitcase on wheels but that's not very exciting is it? Was thinking maybe also a leather pandora bracelet with some animal charms or some star wars lego. She likes clothes but not enough yet to put them on an xmas list.

Gah this in between age is very difficult. I feel wistful when I read about people buying toy castles, kitchens and dolls. I also know all the relatives will be asking what she wants and she doesn't need anything. I suppose I'll suggest vouchers.

Anyone had the same dilemma? First world i know and a bit embarrassing but this is a fluff topic, right?

Ooh tough. My ds doesn't play much with toys but you can never go wrong with lego & computer games so it's not a big problem.

What's her room like? Has she got a nice lamp, rug, beanbag etc? We did a room makeover one year - everything dr who from curtains to pictures for the wall. Had a fun Boxing Day transforming his room and he loved it Smile

Does she have particular hobbies that need accessories or equipment? Or would she enjoy some of the board games for older children, or a recipe book?

Or outdoor stuff like a swingball?

The room makeover sounds good -I think I'll save it for after we get the house repainted, thanks for the idea. She has a swingball, plays an instrument, bike and scooter sizes still ok. We did the Merlin passes a couple of years back and do spend quite a bit on experiences. Gah they all have so much these days.

Re boardgames, she has mentioned mousetrap. Suspect it's the main in the arse to put together as it was in the 70's.

My dd is almost 9 and has never been a huge toy fan, unlike her sisters who will sit and play for hours. Apart from Lego and maybe a bit of craft, she's not really asked for any toys. She loves books though.

I have got/am getting my dd some lego, books, bedside clock with iPod dock, electric toothbrush, I don't usually buy clothes for Xmas but she has mentioned 'Pineapple' this year and its something I wouldn't usually buy so will look into that, new bag for school, DVD, CD, cluedo. She loves writing stories so have got her a nice notebook and pens. She has also asked for a new case for her iPod and a wii game. In her stocking she has things like lip balm, lip gloss, hair bits, ear muffs, perfume stick, sweets, Moshi stickers ... I pick things up all year round so stocking things are usually less than £1 each.

If your dd has an iPod, how about a docking station, a new case or iTunes voucher? Maybe some 'older' board games. My dd had junior monopoly and Cluedo but prefers the more grown up versions now.

DD is 11 and just at this stage (she still wanted Playmobil last christmas). She'd love a really nice suitcase on wheels - I don't think that's a boring gift at all. In fact she still cherishes the little suitcase on wheels we were given for her when she was a baby, replacing it with something teen-sized would be a great gift idea sometime :)

I'm considering getting her a nice sewing basket of her own then putting sewing bits in her stocking, would that work for your dd? Or a pattern with the fabric and bits to make it up?
