I always buy alcohol. Last year I bought some 'Festive Gin' as I really liked the woman.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 08/10/2013 07:33

thanks
tis a new school for us so will see the lay of the land before plumping for alcohol but does feel the right way to go

Christmas tree decoration?

ZombieBelle · 08/10/2013 09:28

i make jewellery, so DS is going to help me make a charm bracelet for his P1 teacher. You could make salt dough decorations and give one to teacher? bit more personal

ShabbyButNotChic · 08/10/2013 10:06

Personalised things are always good as they cant be stolen by other staff eg bookmarks, initial mugs, etc

I work at school at once got a desk calendar where each month had an appropriate drawing done by the child. Presume they scanned them in and used vistaprint? I also have my special mug which ha a printed photo on of a drawing of me and a little message 'to shabby you are great love from 'name''. I like it as they were very thoughtful and drew me skinny

My DCs' school classes are all named after animals, and for both of the teachers it's their first year in these particular classes, so I'm hoping to find a tree decoration representing those animals. Owl will be easy, badger not so much Hmm

3birthdaybunnies · 08/10/2013 11:25

Personalised notebook from ebay?

insanityscratching · 08/10/2013 11:46

Fuzzpig this is a cute badger ornament

I think Christmas Decorations are a great present, especially if they are personalised in some way - even the ones that you can buy that have a space to write in. It's nice to unwrap them each year and think about the child that made/gave it for/to you. It's lovely to have something 'to keep' but that isn't something that needs to be up all year.

Surely, unless the teacher is an NQT she will have more 'Best Teacher' mugs than she knows what to do with!! Grin

olivo · 08/10/2013 11:54

You can never have enough best teacher mugs, trust me! I like getting personal things, shows they have been listening to my inane drivel Wink My Dds make a decoration each ( yellowmoon/ baker Ross is your friend there) and then I get something edible or pretty tot go with it. At Easter, they get a nice mug with an egg in it, and in the summer, we make up a little gift bag containing relaxing things.

My favourite gifts have been a little Christmas cake made and decorated by a mum, and a gorgeous little photo frame, made by a child.

SunshineAndPeardrops · 08/10/2013 13:15

I have bought loads of these for various people and occasions. They're gorgeous and very unusual, yet practical.

Sock Bouquets

Last year I made dd's Y1 teacher a hat. It was the same as the one dd has which the teacher always said she wanted in an adult version. I just got dd to do some surreptitious digging re her favourite colour. She wears the hat a lot so assume she likes it!

This year, I really like dd's teacher but have no idea. She's a fairly new teacher and v young and trendy so won't be crocheting a hat for her. I'm thinking really pretty stationery. DD is going to knit her a bookmark too.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 08/10/2013 13:23

Aaah google came up with this. I like.

olivo · 08/10/2013 13:39

Love the candle. Suitable for a man, do you think?

clr2014 · 08/10/2013 13:42

I like booklets of pretty post it notes....

MamaBear17 · 08/10/2013 19:54

In a teacher and honestly, I love anything handmade by the kids. A nice bottle of wine and a handmade card always goes down really well x

SugarplumKate · 08/10/2013 20:45

I'm buying them mugs from www.marysmeals.org.uk/. For Beaver/Cub/Scout leaders, I will do wine or chocolates.

50ShadesofXmas · 09/10/2013 09:35

Ds1's teacher is very arty, quite girly and lovely, any ideas?

Bluecarrot · 09/10/2013 09:50

Oh, I like the marysmeals mug idea though would love an option other than a plastic mug...

I'm making a tote bag which dd will personalise, and putting a nice pen, some "emergency chocolate" etc low cost but hopefully will look good!

MadeOfStarDust · 09/10/2013 09:59

We don't do the gift thing - just a spoken thank you and a card...

I always think that if you have to ask what is a suitable gift, then you don't know someone well enough to be giving one to them...

but I know I am not considered normal...

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 09/10/2013 19:06

Made Of StarDust I generally agree, with his old teacher I knew exactly what she would like, and at our old school I had a general plan of what we should do.

However new school, new parents, new teachers.. totally new ball game.
