If I had the money I'd take DS to Legoland or Alton Towers for their NYE Party. But as I dont have £400, anyone have any other ideas on how we can make NYE special?

Will probably just be me, DP & DS... not sure can face organising a party myself!

How old is he?

Are you near London? Dinner out and then watch the fireworks? You and DP can have hip flasks, the atmosphere will be great and the tube home is free

Have people with similar aged children round, cook a proper sit-down meal for everyone (or get everyone to bring a course) which gives focus to the evening and before you know it, it's midnight! Then let everyone crash (having brought sleeping bags etc) and share a big fry-up the next morning. We've done this for years and it works really well.

If prior years we've went to the local amusement/bowling centre. The package included crazy golf/bowling/food/dodgers etc. it was great with lots of other families there and not too rowdy. Unsure if you have anything similar nearby?

we do a nye family bowling contest then an early pub lunch

then home for a supper buffet and fireworks Grin

Games night if you want to stay inside with different snaks for each game.
Make it into a bonfire night - cook potatoes in embers of bbq (if you can't have a proper fire), mulled wine, sparklers, ghost stories, snuggled under blankets, hot soup, fireworks if you want and can get them.

I live in the Netherlands and NYE is the only time you can legally set off fireworks. At midnight the skies just explode. Every man and his dog is out on the street. Kids get woken up at 11.45 to come out and see the fireworks.

I hate going out on NYE - we'll be staying in with ds (2) and probably playing scrabble with a bottle of red, then out on the street at 12 for a glass of champers with ILS (they're our neighbours!).

The last few years we have taken DC to softplay then gone for a pub lunch...good atmosphere and feels like you are actually doing something on the day then go home and watch a film with popcorn, snacky tea for DC, indoor fireworks and sparklers then when they are in bed DH and I have some fizz and yummy food and watch a dvd or something.

This year we might have a friend and her DS (and maybe one other family) round and just do the fireworks/sparklers, food and fizz.

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/10/2013 21:12

We do cinema and then out for dinner. We get home before 11 for fizz and watching the fireworks out of the window.

The last few years we have had a time shift party. We celebrate New Year as it goes around the world. Started with BBQ food watching Sydney fireworks, then Indian food with Delhi NY @ 5:30, then think we did Russia, Kenya, Greece, followed by waffles in the morning with West coast of USA. We made flags, played games, did some dancing. By the time we had wished everyone a happy new year 5 times, no one really cared when Greenwich went into new year. You could pick different countries to suit your child.

IBelieveInEngels · 01/10/2013 21:47

That's an awesome idea bunnies !

3birthdaybunnies · 01/10/2013 21:50

Thought it all up myself didn't steal it from here a few years ago it was lots of fun. You can invite other families to join in some of it too.

GlitterKitty · 01/10/2013 23:15

Ds is 6. There are some great ideas here!

well this is a slightly odd tradition in our family but everyone loves it. We get together all the family photos from the past year and make scrapbooks each person gets their own book and decorating supplies etc
we stay up doing this till countdown the we have our own fire works and those floating lanterns it's really fun!!!
