Days out vouchers for DC for Christmas?

Last year my two DSs received way too many toys!!! We have a large family which doesn't help. When this year my family ask what to buy DSs I am going to ask them to buy them vouchers for days out e.g. Local farm, cinema, theme park (if they exist).

When I mentioned this to DH he thinks our family might be offended by this.

Just wondered what others thought to this request?

I think it's a good idea. I wouldn't be offended.

I think it's a great idea and wouldn't be offended if anyone asked me to buy something like that for their DCs.

I would love this for our kids, and definitely wouldn't be offended if someone asked for days out vouchers for theirs. Better than all the plastic tat IMHO.

I asked my parents to get annual membership for DD at our local farm last year for her birthday (she turned 3). Its worked out well. Not only are there animals but loads of playgrounds and a huge soft play so you can go at any time in the year. DD loves it there. Each time we've been, I've reminded DD that we get to go there due to her grandparents, often when we're there I'll take a quick photo on my phone and send it to my parents and then sometimes DD will call them when we get back to tell them about what we've done. I'm hoping that next time my parents come & stay, they'll get to go there with DD (they were supposed to one their last visit but DD was ill). They also gave DD a token present to unwrap. I can't remember what it was but it was something DD really wanted and one of those things that you can get for children which costs about £5 but is massive so DD was thrilled with it all despite not really understanding on her birthday about the annual membership thing.

Great idea, we have done this. We allow one small present from the grandparents (small in size and monetary value!) then ask for the rest as a cheque or vouchers towards Merlin and/or other passes.

What I try to do is follow up, and every time we have a day out using vouchers/passes, take photos and send them to the people who gave money/vouchers so they can see the smiles, and say "thank you" repeatedly. And also remind DCs who gave the money to allow you to have the day out.

I think it's a great idea and I'd love to have them for my children. In fact, I often buy my DDs such things!
