Gift for 15yo girl?

Trying to think of gifts for my niece (has birthday near Christmas, so need to come up with multiple ideas) and coming up blank. She likes reading (but I can't keep track of what she has and hasn't read, and I have a habit of getting her a book token so I'd like to break away from that), fashion and make-up, drama (acting, rather than teenage histrionics Grin); my DCs are younger and I am much, much older and out of touch with what Young People Today like.

Oh, and as with many of us at the moment money is tight this Christmas so ideally something that looks as though it costs a lot more than it actually does... Wink.

Do you know if she is into Dr Who, Sherlock, LOTR, Supernatural, Twilight, Big Bang Theory or any others? There are board games and merchandise from all these available.

Bags from Accessorise usually go down well or decent mascara and eye liner.

Boots 3 for 2 gift sets have gone down well with dd over the past few years. She has really liked, soap and glory bath range, 17 make up sets and the posh haircare sets. She also liked the Number 7 vanity mirror which is usually £25. She also loves The Body Shop and they often have good deals online such as 40% off.

This year I've bought dd the Apothecary make up sets reduced from £25 to £10. You can find the link on the op of the bargain thread.

I have 3 teenage DSDs, who can vouch for my excellent gift choices (or they are politely lying to me!):

Costa/starbucks giftcard
soap and glory from boots
Lush bathbombs
maybelline cosmetics (black eyeliner, black mascara, foundation (secretly nosed in makeup bag to find out shade)
Hotel chocolat choccies (they do nice designs and choc is fab)
something (small) of the 'in brand' amongst their friends (Bench beanie hat etc)
15YO has asked for 'Ralph Lauren 2'. Its not cheap though Grin
Cinema voucher
19YO liked a Cath Kidston bag we spotted while out shopping (way too expensive). I secretly purchased it online at half price from Cath Kidston site. wait till I have a look for the bag...

sorry it was the biker bag in the green spot, but it's not there now. (hardly surprising at half price Smile)

I'm struggling to think what to get my 15yo DSDs. This is the first year they've had an allowance so they are getting stuff like DVDs themselves. Cinema vouchers went down well on their birthday but they now have unlimited membership.

I have found an amazing Sherlock hoodie for one, and some Asa Butterfield stuff for the other, but otherwise am stumped.

Am planning on ordering these for the 2 teenage girls in our family.

everydayaschoolday · 24/09/2013 10:08

Guitargirl those bags are lovely. I have a DSD with a lovely name but unusual spelling. This would be perfect. Flowers

  • Could you find cheap tickets to a play or musical if she likes drama?
  • If she likes films perhaps see if any local attractions/areas were used as locations for films and take her for a day out?
  • A 'film collection' based on the kind of things she likes, e.g. a Horror Collection of her favourite ones/or classics, a Directors Collection of a few different films by the same director, or the same for her favourite actor/actress?
  • If she likes reading you could keep an eye out for if any of her favourite authors are doing book signings nearby and get her a signed copy. Even if it's one she already has I'm sure she'll appreciate a duplicate copy if it's signed.
  • Make up sets always go down well. If she's really into her make up maybe some professional make up brushes/boxes etc would be appreciated.
  • A day out to a nearby upmarket department store (thinking Selfridges/Harvey Nicks type places)? Give her a gift card for there, or an x amount limit on what to spend and she can have a lovely day out with her auntie and can treat herself to something.
  • Or take her to one of those department stores for a make over and treat her to a small item of make up when she's done?

Does she like music? A pair of tickets to a gig/concert would have gone down well with me at 15. As would cd's (or iTunes vouchers these days!)

Perfume? You can get some good deals online so it needn't cost as much as on the high street.
