My little boy started nursery at school this year, im just wondering if most people buy a small gift for the teacher & TAs and what do you normally get?

I always do but wouldn't expect someone who is struggling financially to (always gets mentioned in these threads!)

In the past I have given really nice Xmas decorations, good soaps etc, gift cards or something like a jar of those flowers in syrup you add to cheap champagne. Depends how cashed up I'm feeling.

I bought some beautiful handmade decorations half price after christmas which I put away for this year!

Oh- I also have some bottles of red opi nail polish I bought on sale the other day which I will also give (lots of dcs!)

Yes I do but it also the end of the school year here. My mum used to like getting home made cards and decorations, chocolate , flowers and wine!!!! She never expected anything

I got something this week which was lovely. An email from a parent saying thank you. Lovely.
I always give my form a little something and a card. To be honest just the students saying thank you is lovely. Tokens of appreciation are always appreciated by teachers regardless of cost.

I buy teachers at the end of the school year. At christmas I just send a box of shortbread for the staffroom. I'm a teacher myself and know treats at breaktime are always appreciated! I also have 4 dc at the school so teachers, assistants etc would all add up if I bought individually.

I do, just something small, hopefully something tucked away earlier in the year from a glitch or a bargain. Last week by chance some fancy umbrella's came up on the Christmas Bargains thread, and I put a couple aside for Teacher and TA, £10 combined but that amount wont affect our family finances so that's okay with me. No teacher would want to feel your family would feel the impact of spending money, any amount of money, on them so I would only do it if it was something we could afford. A homemade xmas decoration and card would be a lovely idea if you were being careful with ££, can still give it to teacher wrapped up so child doesn't feel they are missing out (if your child worries about that sort of thing, my DS is utter oblivious to what other kids do)

I have heard from MN threads in the past that homemade food can be viewed with suspicion and I don't blame teachers after seeing our little darlings wipe their noses on their sleeves all year ;) so a store bought box might be best.

I usually buy a tree decoration for the teacher and TA for ds'1 to give

Teen stepson is in secondary school so no gift but he has aspergers so I give a box of nice biscuits to the schools extra needs team

Im a secondary school teacher and biscuits in the staffroom are always well received! However, the nicest gifts are the home-made cards. I have kept every card I have ever been given.
