Girl or boy, what are they into?

moondog · 18/09/2013 15:18

Eh? For what reason?

BankerMommy2010 · 18/09/2013 15:22

Why do u want them to look big?

FedupofTurkey · 18/09/2013 15:39

For a boy. Not got much money, but if the wrapped present looks big, looks like more iyswim

Outdoor/sporty stuff rather than indoor electrical stuff is a winner if you want big boxes (skateboard/football/goal/ramp etc) but tbh at 11 he is old enough to understand that its not the size of the parcel that counts!

My 8 yo wants a DS and realises that even if DP & I both contribute and his dad gets him the games/case he won't get anything else. However, that's what he wants and he knows its expensive, so he won't mind it being a little box.

I tend to thing that big presents are for little children and vice versa!

roller blades
archery set
stilts
huge canvas and some acrylic paints
a onesie

what does he like?

In October (half term I think) they do a half price sale at Sainsburys (toys)

My DS is 14 this Christmas but a couple of years ago he got a huge "Halo" set half price.

(I know what you mean about a Big Box Present . It looks good doesn't it)

Argos are worth keeping a check on. I got a Sylvanian Family Regency Hotel for DD a couple of years back. £55 instead of £110.

Try B&M if there is one near you as toys are significantly cheaper. I bought a Peppa Pig camper van for £16.98 instead of £24.99, it came in a big box so would meet your requirements.

I would think that lots of little presents to open would be better if you are on a budget than one big present & nothing else.

The Entertainer normally has some supercheap stuff if you have a branch locally. Or The Book People collections are good if he's a reader.

PrincessWellington · 18/09/2013 21:36

When I have this problem I buy a pile of stuff they need anyway - toiletries, treats, stationery, clothes and put them in a box with shredded paper

PrincessWellington · 18/09/2013 21:41

Are you going on holiday next year? What about a holiday towel, swimming shorts, flippers, snorkel

JazzAnnNonMouse · 19/09/2013 12:42

My mum used to buy and wrap all the stuff I'd need anyway

Underwear
Stationary
Etc

Get to a poundshop/99p shop!!

PigStack · 19/09/2013 12:51

bulk it out with a selection box, books (start picking up now to get them cheap) and, as Jazz says, stuff from the 99p shop. My DD is the same age and still loves to rip open the paper - what is inside comes second.

A Peppa Pig camper van for an 11yo boy? Yeah, he'd be thrilled!

Dressing gown, football, cricket set, basketball, new school bag, sweets, slippers?
