I tend to to stop them seeing what i have got them

I dont wrap straight away because I have a tendancy to forget what I've bought. When there are too many pressies to be confident they wont be found then I wrap them so that if they do find them he cant see what it is.

BuskersCat · 12/09/2013 16:42

No, they are in plastic bags, so that I can look at what I've got her and check that I'm not about to duplicate them

littlewhitebag · 12/09/2013 16:45

I would never do that. I like to get everything out near Christmas and see what i have got. Then i can check that each pile of gifts is roughly equal. I then wrap each DD's presents in one type of wrapping paper chosen to reflect what they would like. That way on Christmas eve i know exactly what pile is for each child. Funnily enough they are always able to tell what pile is their based on the wrapping paper.

CalamityJones · 12/09/2013 16:46

No, I like to wrap presents on Christmas Eve with the help of a biottle of Baileys. It simply doesn't feel Christmassy unless I'm shouting 'you wanker' at a roll of sellotape at 11pm.

bundaberg · 12/09/2013 16:49

no, otherwise i'd forget what it was lol. plus it's easiuer to store if it isn;t wrapped

CaptainCapybara · 12/09/2013 16:49

No because my christmas wrapping paper is in the box in the loft with the decorations and won't come down until december.

RobotHamster · 12/09/2013 16:49

Yes, and update the spreadsheet so I don't forget what I've got

(also - Christmas topic)

phantomnamechanger · 12/09/2013 16:50

ooo littlewhitebag, snap!

I get 3 types of wrap for the 3 DC, saves having endless labels to write

DH and I wrap around 20th/21st December.........after one horrendous christmas eve when DD2 started with norovirus at about 8pm and we ended up getting very little sleep in between trying to wrap and swill out the sick bucket........

FruOla · 12/09/2013 16:50

How about posting this in the Christmas Topic www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas?

ShepherdsPurse · 12/09/2013 16:50

No because I chop and change the presents around. May have spent more on one, or other etc.

I have a 'wrapping day' just before they break from school for xmas

VikingVagine · 12/09/2013 16:51

Yes, then I forget what I've got and it's a surprise for everyone on the day!

I might have bought the same thing, once or twice

SilverApples · 12/09/2013 16:52

No, but I've always kept the presents at my parents' house and wrapped them on Christmas eve. I've also always done the different wrapping paper per person, makes life a lot easier.

AmberLeaf · 12/09/2013 16:52

What? when you can have the joy of staying up till 2am on christmas morning panic wrapping?...

DeathMetalMum · 12/09/2013 16:55

I am the dame as calamity. It is a christmas eve tradition to battle against trying to wrap the presents before falling asleep from too much (fake) Baileys.

Floggingmolly · 12/09/2013 16:59

Don't you do Santa, then?

SilverApples · 12/09/2013 17:13

Presents under the tree are from relatives, presents in your stocking left on your bed are from Santa.
Anyone who doesn't fall in with my Christmas Mythology will forgo the stocking. So far DD and DS both still believe the stocking is from FC.
They are 18 and 22. Grin

invicta · 12/09/2013 17:17

No. I hide them and wrap them in the last week or so before Christmas.

ToriaPumpkin · 12/09/2013 17:18

I like to have a night when DS is in bed and DH out where I put on a Christmassy film and drink mulled wine while wrapping everything, usually about mid-December. This year however I'll be pg over Christmas and SPD is rearing its ugly head meaning I'll probably find lifting, bending and kneeling hard by then so DH might get wrapping duties this year!

dementedma · 14/09/2013 20:39

I used to leave them all for one big wrappi g frenzy but after being pissed off wrapping what felt like a million presents last year, this year I am wrapping as I go. I also used to use a different colour paper for each DC. This year I have bought a huge roll of brown parcel paper -dirt cheap- and will tart them up with Christmas ribbons and glittery bits.

lade · 14/09/2013 22:51

Oh no, it just has to be done in one big session with copious amounts of alcohol and Christmas songs playing.

DD1 starts helping me earlier in the evening, when we do other people's, but then I do the DDs when they have gone to bed.

I might be sad, but I actually look forward to doing my big Christmas wrap night, and I usually waste far too much money on bows and ribbons etc...

DTisMYdoctor · 14/09/2013 22:54

No, I like to wait until the tree is up, crack open some fizz and put some Christmas tunes on. Though I always still end up madly wrapping stuff on Christmas Eve!

mumtoone1 · 14/09/2013 22:58

I normally do it all at once end of Nov. I love wrapping. I think i'll do it middle of December this time. Always regret doing it so early. I get two kinds of wrap. One for family friends and one from santa for DS( who sadly no longer believes but still appreciates the traditions)

I hide the presents wherever I can find space. Suppose I should be glad the presents get smaller as the kids get older... Easier to store!

mikkii · 14/09/2013 23:12

I have already started buying a few things, but this year we rearranged downstairs and DC now have a playroom. They wanted a TV, (DS asked if he could have one for his birthday in August), so we bought one, but it is the main present for Christmas for all 3 DC.

DH normally does childcare on a Thursday, but he hast o work the 1st Thursday in December, so I am normally off this day and use it for Christmas wrapping. DD2 will be 3 so not sure if I can wrap this year with her around?

Guitargirl · 15/09/2013 09:29

I don't wrap as I buy, buy presents throughout the year so I would forget what I have, plus both DCs have birthdays just after Christmas so I divide their presents into Christmas/birthday nearer the time depending on what they've asked FC for. Everything gets locked into a wardrobe and then I hide the key!
