Just that really! We don't have much spare cash (does anyone!?) so wont be splashing out ourselves for bubs 1st Xmas (just a couple of special thing probably) so must be practical when we are asked by our family what they should get for our little boy. What was invaluable for you and your baby between 6 and 12 months old?
I'm thinking some kind of bumbo type seat and maybe a doorway bouncer thingy, but please tell me if they are a waste of time!
TIA

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions!
A jumparoo sounds great, I've seen a couple before but they always seem HUGE and we don't have tons of space (floor space is currently all taken up with bounce chairs, baby gym, Moses basket etc but I suppose LO will out grow then soon enough!).
Thanks for the tip about the bumbo, I think he is probably too small for one right now and if they outgrow at around 6 months its probably pointless!
Swimming lessons is a great idea too, DP is desperate to take LO but I'm making him wait until after the vaccinations are complete so starting after Xmas would work.
This is the first year I'm actually happy to be thinking about Xmas in September! Smile

Bath toys are good and you can get a bath chair that sticks to the bottom of the bath, it's great for when they're at the wriggly stage and they can play with toys without you having to hold them.

Clothes are also good and things like Lego duplo (bigger bricks) are good for when he's a few months older. My eldest got some for her first Christmas and she still plays with them at nearly 6yo.

Jumperoos are currently down from £115 to £51 on Amazon

Got one for DS2 who'll be 6 months at xmas too

I agree with clothes. And maybe a ride-on toy. That was a long-lasting favourite with my two. (We were given a cheap one by a friend of the family, around the same time that we bought a lovely wooden trolley with bricks, to aid cruising. Guess which one was loved to death and which was completely ignored!)

We always asked for Clarks vouchers!

If you have a garden then maybe a small token gift now but money to combine with his birthday. We did that one year and got a lovely wooden playhouse that they still enjoy, or swing. You really will get value for money. It's a lovely stage but whatever you get the wrapping paper and boxes will be best!

A high hair with removable tray and that the back drops back so they can nap in it if need be without missing out in exciting things! We had a great M&P one that legs changed height too so it worked as a chair at the table until DD was over 3.

Classic books - a good hardback book of nice stories, particularly the classics like Grimms fairy tales, or long books, I have a lovely hardback of the whole Narnia collection in 1 book, and a Beatrix Potter collection too.

Activity walker of some sort. Other "learning" toys for over the next year, stacking cups, shape sorters, first cars or dolls. I am not too gender specific at this age, me and my sisters loved our oil tanker truck more than dolls, while brothers both had action mans and would swipe our sindy,s for games with them a bit older. And cloth or board books too. Walker would be a big present, lots of others are small. (Finger paints?!). Or big chubby crayons, pencils.

Clothes for times over the next year. Including useful things like vests, baby grows, maybe a sleeping bag for next size up if you use the baby sleeping bags, can't remember their name now but they were great for DD. A winter snow suit for next winter so you'll have it when you need it. Assuming you already have all that gear for this winter by Christmas.
