Homemade Christmas presents.....yes or no?

Was only thinking for family, not friends or children.

And was thinking lemonade and a Christmas goodie to eat or soap.

Assuming you aren't known for having a revolting kitchen.
I would particularly like anything edible.
I wish everyone would do this because i'd have extra treats to eat and less shit for landfill.

And I'm a bit funny about Christmas tbh. I think birthdays are the time to spoil a person with a voucher/clothes/ jewellery/ whatever (all depending on budget of course) but Christmas is not the time to be making sure everyone you know has everything they want or need.
It's all too much stress. I would be very happy with some fudge or jam or chutney or stuffed dates or something.

I think it is a great idea and I would love it.my mum makes us all handmade presents now that we r grown up and don't really need anything.she knits so makes us throws and cushion covers,scarfs,hats etc and makes our children clothes-they are actually quite modern designs as well.this year she is doing embroidery christmas cards,soap and always gives us a bottle of homemade sloe gin and jars of jam or pesto.i love it and I've started to make jewellery for friends and my friend has started to make picture frames.its a great hobby and all year round project.lets you develop new skills and is great money saving idea.

Yes! It's naff, but in a good way. I would love it, but then I'm the type to make homemade gifts so perhaps I'm not the best judge.

Still, I've always wanted someone to send us one of those round robin things and nobody ever has. I must like naff. But then, I tend to like what I like and not worry what people think, so perhaps that's why I didn't notice. Happy in oblivion

I wouldnt say no to homemade fudge or cake, I'd take the risk re hygiene! I'd say toffee too but wouldnt want to lose me fillings!

I would prefer something handmade to something bought in the shops. I always prefer original stuff to mass produced. I think you need to present what you make really well though.

It's just as likely that shop made stuff could have questionable hygiene. I don't worry about things like that.

I ADORE round robin letters. ADORE THEM. The more showy-offy the better. And a bottle of limoncello or sloe gin to sip whilst reading said missive would pretty much make my Christmas.

happy that's true, you don't question the hygiene of the handmade type stuff you buy from these Christmas markets. Go for it op, sounds like fun.

I would be thrilled with home made foody stuff. Esp cakes or truffles.

I made all DDs nursery teachers handmade keyrings and lavender bags. They SAID they loved them!

I did a massive batch of pickled shallots last week (home grown, natch) & some of those are for family. Not all though as I am a vinegar addict.
Last year, still on maternity leave & very broke, I made knitted doll clothes for niece, scarf for mum, some chutney & jam for the rest. Also about 8lb of fudge, & some boozy truffles. In previous years we've done raspberry vodka, sloe gin & damson gin. (using bought booze, we just added the fruit.) I may make mead this year. Or biscuits.

I'm off to find that thread someone mentioned. Sounds right up my street!

I love receiving home made stuff, my brother is amazing at this. He loves working with wood and has made me an earring tree, a table lamp, a jewellery box and beautiful photo frame for the past 4 years (he's only 21)! My grandad works with silver and I often get little silver pieces. My artist friend gave me a picture and it is the best present I've ever been given!

Food and drink, I'm not so bothered by but I do give a homemade panne tone and limoncello to both sets of parents each year. I think homemade presents work really well if you have a real skill and could sell what you make, they are nicely packaged, and you know the recipient very well.

Now, homemade panettone is a fab idea.

Ok, I'm warming to my theme. Limoncello, honeycomb and panettone it is I reckon. And a round robin!

Honeycomb is difficult, goes soggy quickly. I do gingerbread biscuits each year and everyone goes mad for them. My grandparents for example, they would rather I baked some scones and buns for them as they enjoy them, rather than get them something they don't actually need. I bought some moulds and do chocolate lollipops for the kids in the family too.

Home made foodstuffs. No thanks. I'm ridiculously fussy about eating things that have been made by other people.

Home made smellies/crafts etc. Lovely.
