Decorating the house when DC is crawling everywhere

I have two DDs (2.5 and 11 months). The littlest crawls everywhere and I am sure that she would pull down a tree/get herself tangled up in lights. However, the eldest will definitely enjoy a properly decorated house for the first Christmas she'll remember. SO.... tips on how I can decorate my house in a safe, manageable way. What do those of you with crawlers do about a tree? The only thing I can think of is a tree on a table but that seems a bit odd. Would welcome any bright ideas...thank you!

Tree on a table isn't so odd, all my childhood we had a small artificial tree on a table. If you like a floor standing real tree you may have to change where you normally situate it.

You could use a playpen to stand the tree in, or create some sort of barrier. If you have an artificial tree you could just use the top part and hang it from a hook on the wall (just leave off the back branches or bend them around to the sides)

I have to say, cats are more of a problem hoiking things off the tree to play with, and climbing.

I asked this very question last year. Most posters told me it would be fine, one came up with a novel idea of putting gates/baby jail around it!

It was fine. Once the tree was up DS crawlled over very interested in it. Patted a few of the baubles (put your cheap ones at the bottom) and then off he went. Just explained not to touch it and it will be fine.

Our DD was 12 months at Christmas last year - we just decorated as normal (we don't have glass baubles as we have cats who occasionally play with the baubles). DD pulled the odd bauble from the bottom of the tree - but it was fine.

We used to have a small tree on a coffee table when we grew up, so I don't think it's odd to do that either.

Our DS was 12mo last year. The tree lasted 10 minutes. He's a boy who ignores the word 'no', so I'd say it depends entirely on your kids.
We are debating whether to have one this year, as well...
Our knitivity (thanks, Mum!) survived as it was out of reach, but of course he's taller this year. We are running out of 'out of reach' places as we don't have much furniture!

DS2 was 10 months last Christmas. We had cheap childproof baubles at the bottom and lights a bit further up. He has always been mischievous, but apart from the baubles being rolled about on the floor, he was good with the tree.

He didn't even touch the one in the hall, which Suprised us greatly.

Just make sure you don't leave them alone with it, it'll be fine!
