Suggestions for 5 year old DS?

My family are all early starters when it comes to Christmas, and they all want 'suggestions' for presents, so does anyone have any ideas for a 5 year old boy (either from us or family so a wide price range)

He got a ton of lego for his birthday and we have already bought and put away the lego city fire station. He likes playmobil too, but already has a fair bit of it.

Family aren't like to go for activities/memberships etc - they like buying a toy that will delight him before passive aggressively commenting on how many toys he has

Dress up costume, magic set, basic science set, kids tablet, art and craft sets (alex toys do good ones, I have found), bath fizzers, scooter accessories ...

There seem to be new Imaginext Dinosaurs advertised on tv at the moment, DS who is just 5yrs is all a chatter about them.

A good set of face paints? My 5 yr old dn just spent about 2 hours doing his set with my 4 yr old dd. he had the snazaroo starter kit (24.50 on amazon at the moment) and I really notes it down as a good potential present. Both kids adores it and he had been using it loads before that too. They also teated how well it washes off clothes/walls/bedding and it was actually fine!

Ooh some good suggestions I shall be nicking! For my five nearly six year old I was thinking science set, Lego, Octonauts deep sea lab, he also likes board games like Mousetrap and those kits where you excavate for gold nuggets etc. Oh also a money box, and post office play set. Not all from us I hasten to add.

DS already has a post office set LauraChant - he loves it. Interesting that you're thinking of the octolab for your DS - mine (just turned 5) loves his octonauts toys and still gets them out all the time. I saw there was a new set of toys out but have been wary of getting any more in case he suddenly grew out of them.

DS loves lego too and is currently massively into lego hero factory. He has four of them and mixes and matches to create new aliens. He also loves mad science/magic sets but the ones we have are really crappy. He's quite into power rangers too and likes anything spy/ninja related. His best friend has a power rangers megazord which us, apparently, awesome.

I also have a three year old Octonauts obsessive so I know that even if the shine comes off the Octolab it will still get played with!

My ds is 4 but he has expressed an interest (moooommmmm can I have thaaaattt? Pleeaaasseee?) in the imaginext dinosaurs, so probably one of those. Smyths toys have the T. rex for £25 which is pretty cheap.

He also wants a furreal monkey and I fear will not be swayed on this. I have already bought a couple of things, including a fossil excavation set (includes dino poo, bound to be a winner) as he is really interested in this and also gooey Louie as found it reduced. He asks for most things as he sees them advertised, and I say stick it on your Christmas list and he then forgets about them by and large. Generally the stuff he remembers and asks for time and time again stay the same until Christmas.

The toy he has at the moment which is played with basically all the time is the imaginext castle. He absolutely adores it. Maybe slightly too much as he is constantly wanting a battle at the moment. But all the pieces interact and the castle responds, it's pretty cool. He had a lot of the octonauts toys last Christmas and although he still likes them they don't get the playtime they did. The ones that get used most are the ones that can go in the bath so actually the ones with batteries that seem to do more dont get used as often.

My ds has never liked playmobil that much and isn't into Lego either so might be different from most boys his age. He mainly likes role play type toys, knights and castles and dinosaurs. Oh and soft toys, but mostly so he can be the vet I think.

It's interesting to read about what different dc of similar ages are into. Stillhoping... DS only got really into lego as he turned 5 and now plays with it loads so there's time yet

I will tell my dh, it will give him hope! He's desperate for ds to get into Lego but so far zero interest. He wasn't interested in duplo either. He has a few small Lego kits - dh has built them and ds has ignored them!

Ds has had a lot of toys (only child, only / youngest by 20 years grandchild) but I have to say that really only a few have been played with time and time again. He would rather force me to play dull wonderful imaginary games.

The school set by learning resources is great for a 5yo. DS got it for Christmas last year (he was about to turn 5) and he still really likes it. It was a big hit.
