Just that really? Obviously the drawers are small? What could ds have

My dh bought a Lego kit and put a bit in each joke for dd . Could you do this will duplo or something ? Or little toys like party bag toys ?

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 28/08/2013 07:41

Balloon
tiny little bottles of bubbles
happyland figure
small but age appropriate toy car or something?

I'll try to think of more! Getting something similar for my 2 this year except it's fabric so has pockets. DD (6) will be easy (nail varnish, hair bands, yoyo etc) but DS (2) slightly harder! I'll be doing sweets and christmassy jokes mostly

Finger puppets would be good for that age. There's a link to some on the bargain thread. Think about £2 a set from Amazon. Or Ikea do lovely ones for a good price. They also do a nice little puppet theatre, or they used to anyway, might make a nice Christmas gift alongside the advent calendar puppets.

I like the idea of wooden advent calendars but think the drawers are too small on most of them.

Alternate chocolates with a trip eg a little note saying 'trip to see the Xmas lights'.

attheendoftheday · 28/08/2013 18:01

It depends on how big your calendar is. We did little plastic farm animals last year (second hand too!)

JimbosJetSet · 28/08/2013 18:08

How about some of the fun sized oaty bars that Organix do?

FacebookWanker · 28/08/2013 18:14

I have one for DD. I was thinking of chocolate coin plus a small pressie...the drawers are quite small so I can't fit much in. I might put a bead in each drawer so that she can make bracelet...

PipkinsPal · 28/08/2013 18:19

Why do you have to put treats like sweets and toys in it? Why not little cards eg visit Santa, feed the ducks, make a Christmas card for Granny. Decorate the Christmas Tree, sing a Christmas Carol. Make a snowflake etc etc.

MortifiedAdams · 28/08/2013 18:20

A little bouncy ball

A pair of socks

Matchbox Car

We just put a small chocolate coin in each one for DS last year (he was 2.3). He loved it and whan I talk to him now about Christmas that is waht he remembers.

This year I'm going to buy a Playmobil calender and put it in the wooden one. Or I might put a different piece of pirate treasure in each one (obsessed with pirates).

Love these ideas thanks!!
We already have some good Christmas things we want to do so will put those on the days we are going to do them!! I think it will be me and dh opening it anyway!!! I half started some Christmas traditions last year but ds was nearly 8 weeks so it didnt matter when I forgot/didn't get round to it!! This year I'm having as a rehearsal for when he is 2 and a bit!!

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 30/08/2013 19:03

Box of raisins - it's the last year you'll get away with that!

Awakeagain · 30/08/2013 22:24

Love the mini tree idea!!!!
Could put it in the playroom - would Christmassy it up a bitGrin

I have a pocket calendar and am planning to alternate sweetie/chocolate coin/ raisins etc with little WRAPPED toys so dd can practise in wrapping in time for Xmas.

Each day will also have a little card and Xmas themes activity, make decs, cards, baking, decs up, visit Santa etc Smile

MrsHende · 31/08/2013 21:09

Love the table top tree and decorations idea, anyone seen any pretty sets of teeny decorations that would fit in teeny drawers!

cerealandtoast · 31/08/2013 23:02

I think I got mine from Paperchase a few years ago. Lakeland has occasionally had similar, but not so often since they've had their own wooden advent calendars (usually with nativity pieces to arrange during advent).

I have some also from many, many years ago from Homebase of all places!

I also got a good size box of Multi coloured jingle bells from Paperchase a couple of years ago - strung on coloured cotton they would work well as decorations.

Awakeagain · 01/09/2013 08:43

I do think paper chase do lovely little decorations
I think some of my Christmas activities an be Christmas market
Winter wonderland at stockeld park, a ride on the Santa train (old railway local to us) and a trip to see the lights

Need to get looking at the calendar as my elf is going to bring the advent calendar, Christmas books and elf (the movie, me and dh etch while putting Xmas decs up)
Would like him to bring a special breakfast from the North Pole but this will have to be a weekend
