DH and DD2 are in the Chocolate camp
DD1 and I would prefer a Proper Nursery Pudding type thing
no-one's fussed about Christmas pudding

does anyone have any good recipes for something I can make on Christmas Eve?? sticky toffee pudding perhaps??

I've made Delia's mini sticky toffee puds before and they were lovely, relatively light, and sure I did those ahead and reheated

www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisine/european/english/little-sticky-toffee-puddings-with-pecan-toffee-sauce.html

I did them in a deep muffin tray as didn't have individual pudding basins and it worked fine, think I also used sultanas instead of dates and left out the pecans - it was a very forgiving recipe!,

DorsetKnobwithJingleBellsOn · 22/12/2012 13:23

Meringues, hot chocolate sauce and ice cream.

fuzzpig · 22/12/2012 13:26

Eton mess here :)

Allalonenow · 22/12/2012 13:27

Chocolate bread and butter pudding would fit the bill for all of you.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/12/2012 13:31

Those Sticky Toffee Puds are lush Benaberry.

And they count as a health food because they've got dates in them Xmas Wink

We're having a sponge steamed pudding with syrup because-
no body will eat Christmas Pud (I like pud after Christmas when I hanker for the fruity spicy things)
DH doesn't eat chocolate
DD doesn't like cream
DS doesn't like anything fangled (so syrup and cakey stuff is as basic as it gets)
and I've got to use my Portmerion pudding basin and jug.

Allonsy · 22/12/2012 13:35

We are having morrisons decadent choc cake

Rindercella · 22/12/2012 13:37

As well as Christmas pud, I will be making Jamaican Crunch. Ginger biscuit base. Condensed milk stirred into whipped cream with juice & zest of a couple of lemons.

canyou · 22/12/2012 13:39

We are having
Plum Pudding with yellow birds custard [yuck]
Trifle with Jelly, trifle without jelly
Jelly and ice cream [small DC]
Cheese and fruit board
Pavlova [made already]
Banoffee pie
I AM HAVING A LARGE ALCOHOLIC DRINK

canyou · 22/12/2012 13:40

Rindercella I like the sound of that it would be decadent but also refreshing.

HazeltheMcWitch · 22/12/2012 13:41

We don't eat Christmas pudding or Christmas cake chez McWitch. I'm making a choc yule log, and prob an apple crumble. And something else cakey, will possibly freestyle with parsnips.

Varya · 22/12/2012 15:20

Home made cheesecake, ditto chocolate pots (for DiL) and cheeseboard. Xmas pud and custard for DH.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/12/2012 18:08

We'll be having a Heston special for DH and myself, probably a yule log for the DCs - but I had to say I made this mincemeat crumble cake last weekend and it was absolutely divine. It's so simple, too - the crumble mixture on the bottom, layer of mincemeat, then more crumble on top, baked and dredged with icing sugar. It's more like a pudding than a cake, although I'm sure it's delicious cold as well.
The crumble turns cakey on the bottom but stays, well, crumbly on top and it tastes amazing for such a simple recipe.

hermioneweasley · 22/12/2012 18:11

A sort of mont blanc/meringuey thing.

Layers of meringue with chestnut purée, chocolate pieces and boozy cream.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 22/12/2012 18:13

cheers for all the ideas
i adore Eton mess, but am loathe to experiment with imported berries as they often taste of nothing at all
so we are doing sticky toffee. We have dates, various sugars, butter and cream in, and will browse through recipes late.

Homemade cheesecake.
My cousin's recipe. He's a chef.

Festivelyfedup · 22/12/2012 18:22

I have one type two diabetic, one no berries and one no chocolate so I'm doing a rhubarb fool with a Brantley apple jelly layer underneath with some shortbread crumbs. Well, that's the plan for Christmas Eve anyway!

stephrick · 22/12/2012 18:22

Im making a really gooey choc brownie tray bake, whipped cream, bbc recipe.

Festivelyfedup · 22/12/2012 18:23

Bramley apple!

merlin · 22/12/2012 18:25

Well I'm making I for a party on the 29th, not Xmas Day- a chocolate raspberry pavlova!

Recipe in Sainsbo's magazine Dec issue.

PoppyAmex · 22/12/2012 18:30

I love chestnut puddings - do you have a recipe please, hermione?

OComeAllYeFaithBaby · 22/12/2012 18:36

I will be making this frozen Christmas pudding flipping delicious! Everyone had second helpings!

Hopefully · 22/12/2012 18:58

We are having baked alaska. I have decided to instigate this as a new twee wanky annual tradition, but having slaved over making the bloody ice cream, never mind gone through the drama of sticking said ice cream in the oven I am contemplating it as more of a one hit wonder...

hermioneweasley · 22/12/2012 21:32

Poppy - no recipe, just planning to layer it having sweetened the chestnut with some icing sugar

Anja1LikesChristmas · 22/12/2012 21:50

I'm making chocolate fondants for Christmas day:

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/8168/chocolate-fondant

Slightly adjusted quantities to fill only 6 individual pudding basins, added a few cherries too and they're in the freezer now.

On Christmas eve we're having Pavlova (halved quantities from recipe below) and I'm making the meringue tomorrow:

ViperInTheManger · 22/12/2012 21:59

Rinders We do exactly the same dessert as your Jamaican crunch but with digestives and butter for the base. Will try it with ginger, that sounds yummy.
