Any recommendations please on a game I could get for a 3 year old, 8 year old (both girls) and assorted adults to play next week? I have connect 4, mouse trap, snakes and ladders but find younger DD doesn't follow them. Wondering about hungry hippos, that sort of thing? Thanks

Flippin Penguins is fun - also works for adults after a few drinks. Also Operation, Escalado and Buckin' Bronco, if they still sell those.

Twister is a favourite with my 8 and 3 year old and loads of fun when granny, pop, mum and dad get into it too...

My 3 year old loves the Orchard games and 8 year old will still tolerate them sometimes....Shopping Game, Crazy Chef, Spotty Dog

Kids of Catan is simple enough for a 3 year old and again my 8 year old doesn't mind playing

We try to do a board game as a shared present every year as a bit of a tradition. This year we have Charades for Kids. It has picture cards for dd to use to mime with and harder word ones for ds.

My two do like hungry hippos but ds cannot hold back at all, ends up with all the marbles and a very upset dd (also marbles very easy to lose and traditional marbles too big as replacemet) Pop up Pirate is quite good though

The Merry Game of Floundering is popular with our 2, who are 3 and 5. Three yo still needs a bit of help but still wants to play. Fun enough for adults too.

And on a similar theme, how about Mousie Mousie?

We've just ordered kerplunk due to dhs many happy memories :)

I second charades for kids, mine got it last year and they love it, even ds1 who would never normally dress up or pretend to be anything (eg lets pretend to be monkeys - no mummy I'm a boy not a monkey) but he loves charades.
Mine are 2,4 and nearly 6 and we play pop up pirate, pop to the shops, shopping list, operation and snakes and ladders regularly, we have tonnes of other games but they tend to be either very long winded or too complicated to keep anyone's attention span.

Orchard Toys games are great. Both my DD & DS loved Pop to the Shops when they were younger and DS loves the pirate Snakes & Ladders.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Trip to a fairly rubbish toy shop today left me still wondering. Was going to commit to the pop up pirate but they didn't have it. Left with a pinball game being sold off cheap because the box was broken - so need to go to another shop tomorrow, if anyone else has any more ideas?

My 3 year old loves jenga and totally gets it. It's a good all rounder that doesn't feel like a childish game to.the adults.

Another vote for anything by orchard toys

Ghostly Galleon - you get to move your pirate and the ship swings and other pirates can fall off. Hard to explain but a game we all enjoyed when my children were younger. Their main aim was to knock their Dad's pirate out of the ship!
