puff pastry for AMAZING apple tarts - here

EcoLady · 20/12/2012 21:27

Sprinkle with parmesan and/or spread with pesto or tapenade, cut into strips & twist. Bake until crisp - instant nibbles! Xmas Smile

It depends how much you have left over, if I only have a few strips of filo left then I combine icing sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on each strip with a little melted butter to bind the sheets together. Cut them into shorter strips and put in the oven until golden brown.
Yum.

Mmm chocolate croissants are sounding tempting!

Mummymccar- Ive got quite abit of each. Whole pack of ready roll Puff and 2 packs of Filo sheets. Lets just say I over estimated how much id need! Blush

Cheese , onion and potato pasties with puff pastry. Mincemeat crackers with fillo pastry

Hairy Bikers did some fantastic sounding chocolate filo thingies on a Christmas party programme I watched yesterday:

www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chocolate_and_hazelnut_54460

(sorry, can't link properly, phone won't let me) - I've got some filo in the freezer, going to have to buy some chocolate spread to try these. Wondering if it would work with the caramel/dulce du leche ones as well...

Hmm24 · 20/12/2012 22:47

Goats cheese and cranberry turnovers? Or Greek style with spinach and feta?

bedmonster · 20/12/2012 22:49

Ooh Bena I saw those too, they looked amaaaazing but I don't like nutella (or any nutty chocolate spread), can you get just chocolate spread without the nuts do you know?

Benaberry · 21/12/2012 00:19

I'm not sure, but I'm hoping so (dont like the nutty ones either) - think I've seen ones without.

Going to give the caramel a whirl as well I think - dh doesn't like chocolate that much, and I'm feeling generous any other time of year I'd just make the chocolate and eat them all myself

Sausage rolls!

I am making some with some apples in with my leftovers tomorrow

mistletoeandmulledwine · 21/12/2012 08:37

I am making brie and cranberry parcels with filo pastry. Really quick and easy and taste delish Xmas Smile

QuickLookBusy · 21/12/2012 08:45

Sausage rolls

Nigel slater does a Stilton parcel thingy with puff pastry.

I make little tarts with left over pastry. Tomatoes, basil, bits of cheese, olives, anchovies-anything you've got in the cupboard. They are very moorish and lovely for lunch with a salad or just as nibbles.

nextphase · 21/12/2012 08:52

Yes, you can get a dairy milk chocolate spread, with is nutella minus the nuts!

I'd vote of baklava with the filo, and eccles cakes with the puff. Melt some butter in a bowl, throu in some brown sugar, dried fruit and ground cinnamon, make a parcel with some in the middle, seam side down. Sprinkle brown sugar over the top, and put in a couple of slashes, and then cook in a hot oven. Sorry, don't have anything more exact than that!!!! I;m sure there will be a recipie on the web tho.

Or, can you freeze it til later in the year, if it hasn't already been frozen?

FireOverBethlehem · 21/12/2012 08:54

Jamie Oliver has a gorgeous Portuguese Custard Tart recipe using puff pastry

Depending whether you want to do sweet or savory with the filo, you could make

Samosas (handy for Boxing day buffet, can be baked in oven not deep fried)
Mince meat crackers
Chicken pie (I know it's a children's recipe but I made it when DS lost interest in doing so and it tastes fab, esp. if you have any left over wine or brandy to chuck in)
