My mother bought me 'not just any duvet but a WASHABLE duvet!' last year, I was a bit Hmm to be honest. Especially since I already had a perfectly servicable duvet and the super duper one that is specially designed to fit in a domestic washing machine I've discovered doesn't fit in mine...
My Dad once bought her 'not just an ironing board but an EXPENSIVE ironing board'. They're divorced, she swears the two things aren't related but I've always wondered Xmas Grin

Can I just point out as well that my mum is the least flashy person ever, and most years she'd be thrilled with a shed, she's generally much more into her garden than jewels n that.

But for a big birthday, come on. A shed?

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 19/12/2012 22:59

Id be saying "hope you bought one with heating as thats where youll be spending the rest.of the winter"

I would love my DH to buy me a duvet. It would show me he knew me very well.

I'd be fucking narked if he didn't wrap it though! Grin

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 19/12/2012 23:00

Oh she knows I wrap it - she thinks he is hilarious which is useful I suppose.

Tbh much as he is fabulous, I couldnt live with him any more

So Xmas Envy at thought of heated shed, ideally with garden attached...

neverquitesure · 19/12/2012 23:14

An exbf used to buy his Mum things like oven gloves, ironing board covers and kitchen utensils. I would often query this but he was very insistent that nothing made his mother happier than "looking after her boys" ('her boys' being exbff, his father and his adult brother - all of whom still lived at home)

Lucky escape I think.

BerthaTheMangerBurglar · 20/12/2012 13:52

But but but - if she normally drops her book in the bath, why is it better if she has a kindle and drops that in?

And isn't a cruise in the Fjords a present for herself too? Or is he going to go alone?

Actually, I'd love a shed. A shed of my own ... As long as it had heating and light and an armchair and some kind of barrier to keep the kids out. Bliss.

Battlefront · 20/12/2012 14:10

I'd be really pleased with a shed, or a luxury duvet. What I really don't want is DH going out and using his imagination...

OK the duvet is really for both of them, but so is a trip to the Fjords, unless he's allowed to choose who he goes with?

My dad is a bath reader and mum bought him a Kindle last year. For his birthday my sister got him a waterproof cover - she was really pleased with the idea and slightly disappointed that it only cost £4,as she had to think of a main present too. I can't imagine how it can be watertight enough to cope with being dropped in the bath, but apparently it is.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 20/12/2012 15:54

A kindle is no good - as I said, as she drops books in the bath.

My mum has always said she never wants to go on a cruise but bought it as he wants to go.

My dad once bought my mum an electric facial hair remover. She doesn't even have facial hair!

PacificDogwood · 20/12/2012 23:25

A duvet, a posh duvet, is a brilliant present!!
I bought myself one this Christmas - Hungarian goose down an'all.

Mop and bucket, not quite so brilliant Xmas Grin...

How do you wrap a shed?!
