DS is in reception, so this is the first year we have done this! we have bought his teacher and TA a present each (the same thing for both). what do we do about the teacher that covers his teachers non contact time one day a week - should we buy her a little present too? and we havent bought classmates anything either - this isnt expected is it Shock?

some children buy gifts for other children ( or a least the parents do!) expect this to happen. most children take in gifts on the last day. if ds has a special friend you can get a gift if you want to. some parents choose to buy some dont. so i wouldnt worry about it too much.
They same goes for the other teacher.

DewDr0p · 19/12/2012 13:41

There is v little if any present swapping between children at our school thank goodness

I wouldn't worry about the teacher who covers the non contact time tbh (and I speak as someone who is quite keen on teacher presents!)

WipsGlitter · 19/12/2012 13:45

Oh God, i hope there's no present swapping among children. We bought a present for the teacher and the TA. I noticed one parent giving presents in today, but I had cards, a costume and a wriggly toddler to deal with so am leaving mine until Friday when it will be just me and DS.

I have only bought for the teacher - no pressies for friends, etc

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 19/12/2012 13:52

IME peak time for giving Christmas presents to friends is 10-13... Or was/is for my girls. Old enough that they can sort it it themselves.... However, be ready for a BF to throw you a curveball by bringing in a present for DC on the last day!

I used to buy for teacher and TA, and two teachers if they shared the class at primary. Now they're both at secondary this thread has reminding me to be chuffed I don't need to do an extra run to the shops to buy teacher gifts! Grin

Oh, thank you will stick with what I have given that I'm starting to feel a bit stressed by christmas! It hadn't really occurred to me until I saw another mum come into school this morning buried under gift bags. thought I was doing well to provide cards for everyone!

When my DD was in primary, some of the children would bring in a bag of funsize sweets/chocolate on the last day, and each child took one as they were leaving. DD used to come home with quite a stash!

Stitchthis · 19/12/2012 14:48

i was completley stumped until today when I did some wrapping...im going to make button charms like this for the teachers' handbags or they can be used on a keyring...if they hate them then they can always use the buttons for somethng else. last day of term tomorrow, so thats tonight sorted.

BeaWheesht · 19/12/2012 15:01

Ds made his teacher a book mark Nd I got her a little handbag notebook.

Helenagrace · 19/12/2012 17:38

I've just finished making Christmas rocky road for DS's teacher and TAs and white chocolate and cranberry fudge for DD's teachers.

In the DC's previous schools there hasn't been much exchanging of gifts between children. They've only been in their current schools a fortnight so we've hopefully got away with it this year!

Lavenderhoney · 19/12/2012 17:46

All the mums to together and got a gift voucher. Although ds has made her something. He did want to get her a diamond bracelet as a first choice though:)

TA left so nothing for her, and nothing for little friends ( so far, I have emergency gifts in the car though)

coldcupoftea · 19/12/2012 17:53

I wouldn't think of getting presents for other children- just cards, and chocolate and a home made card for the teachers and TAs.

ConstantlyCooking · 19/12/2012 19:23

A chocolate coin stuck onto the card envelope seems to be the popular choice in my school at the moment. I haven't seen any children bringing in class present. If you really want to you could buy a cheap board game to add to the wet play cupboard. I did this when I was at a school for the half term before Christmas.

SledsImOn · 19/12/2012 19:26

We are doing hand written (not home made!) cards for the teachers and TAs, and some chocs for the official teacher. Except I realised that one of the teachers is diabetic and we have no idea what to give her instead Blush

Might do something at the end of the year instead, I don't think she will mind.

And done phew!
