I do everything but I'm single. I get the children to help with tidying up though.

And we don't have anyone round so it's just us to cater for, thank goodness!

I would definitely consider' cards' to be a good trade on 'lunch and wrapping'!

Me
presents for everyone but me
wrapping
cooking

DH
presents for me
clearing up and washing up

So I do at least 80% but I like things done my way so don't complain and whilst I choose the presents dh is the one dispatched to collect them if they can't be delivered.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 16/12/2012 08:41

Me
Presents for everyone but me
Coming up with ideas for suitable presents for the kids for everyone in both our families
Cards (buying, writing, posting)
Wrapping
Decorating tree
Menu planning
Cleaning house to prepare for Christmas visitors
Food shopping

DH
Cooking
Buying and wrapping my present

Joint
Clearing up after Christmas lunch

I work PT, DH works FT but it's been this way since before we had kids and were both working FT. He still was offended by the Asda ad and didn't seem to see that in our house at least it was pretty close to the truth!

Marne · 16/12/2012 09:04

I do everything appart from some of the cleaning (dh likes to do this just before the big day).

I quite like the Asda add as its very true of what goes on in my house.

ThundercatsGO · 16/12/2012 09:59

DH gets the tree out of the attic, I'm short and can't open the loft hatch. On Christmas day he will load the dishwasher maybe. Everything else = me.

I feel like the Asda mum!

baileysontherocks · 16/12/2012 10:05

Me = everything except dinner as we go to my mums but i love it this way i have to be in control so everything is perfect if something is missing its my fault lol (ocd) although i let oh help wrap some pressies..turns out hes amazing at doing it so now he can wrap them all for me Grin

WidowWadman · 16/12/2012 10:07

We actually have pretty much a fifty fifty share - my husband was more annoyed at the Asda advert than I was...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/12/2012 10:10

Him: Gets tree and decs down from loft. Puts it back up there on 31st. Buys my gift.

Me: everything else.

We3NipplesOfVoldiesWeAre · 16/12/2012 13:52

Me:
Put decs up
Buys all presents
Wraps presents
Decides what presents to buy
Take dcs for Christmas clothes
All cooking
Everything else inbetween

DD(16)
Buys sibling and parent presents
Buys present for me off dh (hopefully)

Dh
Buys cards for his family and neighbours
Writes cards
Drives to relatives
Goes running and fishing
Moans to everybody how stressful Christmas is.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune · 16/12/2012 13:54

I do cards for people who I want to do cards for.

DP does cards for people who he wants to do cards for.

It just so happens that he doesn't want to do cards for anyone.

SantaWearsGreen · 16/12/2012 18:38

I do all of the baking (FC's cookies, christmas cake, mince pies etc) with assistance from DH, for instance I always get him to sort the pastry into the muffin tin for the mince pies because I suck. We all do gingerbread houses and men.

Usually DH does the cooking but i've decided its my turn this year. But whoever doesn't cook does the washing up and we both peel/chop veggies.

We both wrap although mostly dh because I am useless at it.

I buy all of the presents online so no biggy. I'm just better at choosing stuff, thats all.

DH puts the lights&tree up and I do all the nicey wice decorating.

DH was more upset at asda ad than I was.

amazonianwoman · 16/12/2012 20:25

Me:
Buy all presents for DCs, parents, his parents, DH, DCs presents from both sets of grandparents (they give me money), have even bought my presents from DH Hmm
Buy the tree
Buy food
Make all meals over Xmas
Clean house
Wrap presents
Decorate house
Clear up after Xmas dinner (my parents will help)

Him:
Get the decorations out of the garage, only because I can't reach them

The Asda ad sums up our house. I'm a mug Sad

WentworthMillerMad · 16/12/2012 20:44

Me - buy, write and post cards. Decorate house, put cards up, buy and wrap all presents, food shop., cook all food,

DH - takes 3 DCs on day trips so I can do the above, washes up, does recycling,

The asda ad is not so ridiculous to me - sorry!

4boyzmum · 16/12/2012 20:50

Me = EVERYTHING.............except tearing off the bits of sellotape to wrap the presents with.

DH = tearing off the bits of sellotape to wrap the presents with!

Ding Dong Merrily on Me!!! Xmas Hmm

In our house Asda, you're spot on!!

PrettyPirate · 17/12/2012 14:50

Me:
Buying all the presents, including his family
Wrapping the presents
Buying, writing and sending the cards
Cleaning the house
Decorating the house
Baking

DH:
Presents for me
Cooking

I'm happy with this as long as he's doing the cooking! And honestly I'm too fussy and controlling for him to take over or 'helping out'.

ValiumQueen · 17/12/2012 14:56

DH cuts the meat. I do everything else. TBH largely through choice as I want it done properly! He cuts the meat beautifully.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/12/2012 14:59

Me everything Part from present for his mum.

I buy everything for dd, all my family and his sisters kids. I do all the wrapping, all food shopping and cooking. He will probably stack the dishwasher.

Dd decorated the tree this year but I put the tree up.

We both work, him full time, me 30hrs. But he thinks I'm lazy. Hmm

TerraNotSoFirma · 17/12/2012 14:59

I generally do all the buying of the gifts online after we have discussed and decided what everyone is getting. We will spend an evening wrapping them and writing cards together, tomorrow night as it happens.

The tree, he gets from the attic, assembles and puts the lights on. I decorate it.

We will both do a massive house clean in the run up to Christmas, DH will give the oven its annual a deep clean.

Christmas Eve, we share equally whatever needs doing.

For Christmas Day, I will do the cooking, DH helps serve and clear, then he cleans the kitchen.

I think that's pretty fair.

NotMostPeople · 17/12/2012 14:59

Me

Buying/sourcing any tricky presents
Getting the house ready in the run up to the big day
Organising food, ordering turkey
Negotiating family re who's coming, what they're bringing and who's buying what for which child.
Helping DC's to buy their presents
Grumbling that I never get invited to Christmas parties (sahm)

Joint

Decorating the house and tree - we make a huge effort, plan it a few weeks ahead and enjoy doing it.
Last minute cleaning, hoovering
Planning what presents to get.
Shopping for all 'high street' presents.
Planning menus
Drinking Baileys
Cooking on the day
Tidying up on the day

Him

Buying presents for me and his Mum.
Buying the tree, sorting out stand, lights etc
Suggesting we buy most of Majestic Wine and drinking it even before Christmas Day.
Going to various Christmas parties and calling/texting to tell me he luffs me

I lothe the Asda is archaic and as much an insult to men as it is to women. I couldn't life like that I couldn't have my son see that as how women should be treated and I couldn't show my daughters that's how their lives should be.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/12/2012 14:59

I haven't done cards this year. I'm waiting for him to realise and moan at me.

Wishfulmakeupping · 17/12/2012 15:00

I do the cards, most of the present shopping, most of the cleaning/getting house ready for visitors, shopping lists
OH: does the food shopping, all wrapping, and Xmas dinner - the whole thing I am useless at cooking
