I'm sure its been done before, but is anyone considering not sending Christmas cards, either this year or from next year?

I only send cards to people I don't see very often, or distant or elderly relatives who like to keep in touch, not people I see every day, so I spent about six quid on some fairly basic cards from The Works, but its costing me almost twenty quid in postage to send them!

I tend to put up long strings and hang up received cards like bunting round the rooms, and after Christmas, I cut them up to turn them into gift tags for the next year, so I get a lot of 'use' out of my cards. But I just think they are quite an expense.

Thoughts from others? Just wondering!

I rarely bother nowadays. I buy a pack of ten for people who would be really offended if they didn't get one, like fil and dp's aunty - but my family and friends don't give a hoot tbh.

I only send to people I don't see.

I hate Christmas cards. Such a drag. I send about 5 and that's to people who haven't got a lot (or any) family and I know they will appreciate the thought.

I stopped them a couple of years ago - now probalby only need a handful for the olds who still like to receive.

I like sending and receiving them, but I don't think it's remotely 'necessary' any more. Worth sending to anyone who will actually notice though (great aunts, tiresome ILs etc).

I made a conscious effort a few years ago to send to everyone, even people I see, and it was lovely to spend an evening thinking about everyone and how their year had gone. This year I have budgeted in cards and postage so it doesn't take me by surprise.

im not sending any this year apart from grandparents which will contain their christmas money but if it werent for that i wouldnt be sending any at all

I've drastically cut down this year, and a lot of people I've spoken to are doing the same. The jump in postage prices this year has just been too much for me this year.
If I receive less this year I'll just buy a packet and pretend they've come in the post Grin

Ohhh I so want to cut back this year but I'm buckling under the pressure to send I can't handle it!!!!!! Just received 6 yes 6 cards to our household from dhs brothers household!! Noooooo!! Lovely of them but I think it's a waste help!!! Xmas Hmm

WhatWouldSantaDo · 10/12/2012 20:48

Haven't bothered for a few years now. Haven't lost any friends over it!

FannyBazaar · 10/12/2012 23:17

I have really cut down, tend to make some cards with DS for family though. I've realised it is a good idea with the old folk though, kind of a 'I'm still here' reminder. I got a bit worried when I hadn't had a card before December from my Grandma's cousin who normally is the first one to get to us and so early it often gets misplaced before I've put my strings up! Phew, card arrived beginning of December confirming he's still around!
