vegetarian shoes

FlojoHoHoHo · 09/12/2012 20:06

DP is a strict vegetarian (I'm recently converted).
I asked him what he wanted for Xmas and he said some 'going out shoes'.
I didn't realise they did vegetarian shoes, so convinced him he might like some Converse (yes I know, not 'going out' at all are they!)
So I googled leather free shoes and discovered the wonderful world of vegetarian shoes. Does anyone buy these? Can anyone recommend any?

No idea, but I've heard bananas make good slippers...

Sorry couldn't resist.

Toms are pretty smart looking shoes, no animal products afaik.

Not quite sure about Toms, a lot of them seemed to have suede in them, unless its fake suede? Is there such a thing?

You can get a lot of fake leather in New Look - nice boots there today. Also, if you go to ASOS, there's a non-leather option you can tick so that only the appropriate ones come up.

There's a Vegetarian Shoe shop in Brighton. They look nice but cost a fortune!

M&S do some non-leather (pleather) shoes.
I'm sure they'd have men's shoes in non-leather.

Oh I didn't know that Target I will look in to it, at least they'll be easy to return if the sizing is out.
Jayne their AUS dollars are quite confusing! And I'm worried I might not get them on time.

Well you'll want www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ then!

There are a few companies, this one is my favourite (see Ethical Wares too, I've found Veggie Shoes a bit more innovative and fashionable, though they're always a season behind and a generic interpretation of each style really).

They are expensive because the production scale is so small but if you only buy them now and then and wear until worn out, I think it's justifiable.

Typed pleather in to m&s website but it didn't have any results.

The problem with non leather shoes from normal shops is the glue is animal.

I have some purple para boots from vegetarian shoes. They are fab!

Veganstore.co.UK always have lots too.

Actually lots of high street shoes are made from fake leather.

Fwiw I've bought quite a few pairs over the years and they last pretty well.

Of course you can exchange them if the size isn't right or he'd prefer a different style.

I just see it as one of those ways in which having fewer choices makes life simpler. Fewer, more expensive pairs, instead of lots of less well worn ones (mostly I can convince myself of this, luckily I'm not that fashionable or into shoes!)

DP and I have been buying from vegetarian shoes in Brighton for at least 15 years. They're brilliant because they are the only company who makes breathable synthetic shoes which is really important. They're really well made shoes too.

Blush Flo pleather is a "plastic leather" , not the shop name.

I've bought M&S boots that were pleather, the only way I knew was when I looked in the description, and they list the materials.

(And they are rather nice too. Had then 2 years IIRC they were £35 )

Sorry for the delay I was asking my friend who buys them she used to buy from vegan shoes but now she uses vegetarian shoes.co.uk (post higher up) as vegan is not uk based. She is very picky about where all of her products come from (even hair dye) she said vegetarian shoes is good as she is young and found they had a bit more choice. But she also uses eBay ( but you are taking more of a risk)

9th December is not last minute! And your current thread in AIBU detailing how nasty this man is was only started on Friday. Seriously, save your money and don't buy him a present.
