Reconditioned Wii - Any Good?

Our Wii has given up the ghost and I was going to buy a new one. DS wants Skylanders from Santa so we need something for him to play on.

I was in Game today having a mooch round and they have an offer on. I can buy a reconditioned Wii and a new Skylanders Giants game for £75. The game itself would be £50.

Soooooo.. My question is will a reconditioned Wii be OK? Or will I end up buying a new one in a few weeks? Does anyone have an experience?

Hi, I worked in games retail for 4 years. Gamestation though. 'preowned' I think is the same as reconditioned. You should have a years guarantee ( keep receipt) even if it's preowned (includes game you buy with it) and you can take out a £20 accidental damage warranty. Although I wouldnt really recommend as it takes ages to fix and you have to send it away yourself- bit of a rip off actually :)

Just a warning though- places like CEx and cash converters etc don't give the same warranty- in fact I believe it's something silly like 2 weeks! I bought a preowned wii from game 2 weeks ago and have a years warranty for freeeeeee Xmas Smile

We bought ours from Game and the guy there said that they hardly ever go wrong, if it breaks it's mainly because someone's thrown the control. It cost £40 with lots thrown in, some controls, a game or two . I think the guy was slightly amused by my absolute ignorance. That was in the summer though, I imagine they'll hike up prices a bit towards Christmas. Ours is guaranteed for a year, I don't think you can go wrong reallly, I figured it was safer that way than buying from someone privately.

Thank you. A year' guarantee sounds great.

To be fair the Wii we have now was played with a lot during the Christmas holidays, a little bit a weekends and February half term and then virtually ignored when the light nights and better weather came along.

I think I'll take the plunge Grin

I wouldn't pay much for it though. They're bringing out a new wii next year and will stop making the games for the existing wii the year after.

Just a word of warning - I bought some pre-owned remotes from Game, they work, but were FILTHY so it would be worth checking everything before wrapping.

The new Wii U is already out - £259.99 though!

Think I'll be sticking with our second hand wii (had since July -no probs since then touch wood) as long as possible until the kids are a bit older when I would consider replacing with the wii u if it was something they really wanted or not possible to get games for the wii anymore.

I think I'll stick with a Wii for a couple of years and when he's older go for something a bit more sophisticated.

I'm emotionally attached to the Wii though Blush . I remember the year Mario Kart came out and I bought it for DH for Christmas. DH and the DDs spent days shrieking with laughter while crashing into the barriers. It was hilarious Grin

We got one, it's still going strong a year later! Make sure the giants game is the starter pack not the booster pack though .
