What was yours? i'm very sneakily looking for ides to pinch

My favourites have been a mug with hot chocolate and marshmallows and the funniest was where we could only spend £1 - i got chicken fillets/breast enhancers which i really didn't need but privided a lot of fun at the xmas party.

I've received two good ones. Scratch cards (I won £5!) and a Starbucks guft card.

beanandspud · 29/11/2012 13:52

I had a bottle of wine once that someone had added a homemade label with "Beanandspud's Festive Tipple" on it. I like things that are:

a. Practical [Please not another fiver's worse of cheap toiletries or a novelty mug]
b. Look as if a tiny bit of thought went into it

Other good ones were a Starbuck's voucher, Boots voucher, a paperback novel, a cookery book, candles, scarf/gloves in neutral colours.

WhitesandsofLuskentyre · 29/11/2012 14:23

Kindle voucher? I thought I was being very boring, but the recipient loved it!

Starbucks always seems like a treat, so I agree with the voucher idea there.

An app voucher? I wouldn't mind having some of my favourite games on my phone, but I refuse to spend my own money on something so frivolous ergo I'd find it a perfect gift!

Something like a photobox gift voucher (although not sure they do them for only a fiver)?

mumnosbest · 29/11/2012 16:22

Mmm coffee vouchers sound good.

Marking my place and bumping hopefully to get some ideas!

I like the scratchcard idea! I work in a school so it's hard to think of something that other staff won't be given loads of...mugs, toiletries, chocolates etc.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 29/11/2012 19:48

We've just drawn our Secret Santa at work. And the others in the group have decided we've to spend £15 - £20! I feel a bit 'bah humbug' but that's a lot for me.

NarcolepsyQueen · 29/11/2012 19:56

Cheap Christmas dvd and a bag of popcorn. Mmmmm.

mumnosbest · 29/11/2012 20:01

£15-20?!?! £5 here and i'm another schooly to. I'm buying for a pg lady so no wine and although starbucks sounds great maybe not so good for her.

Green & Black's do a miniature set for about a fiver. In my books, choc is always good.

Spookey80 · 29/11/2012 20:44

cazza2878 · 29/11/2012 20:53

BeatTheClock · 29/11/2012 20:54

Someone at work once gave my dh a megaphoneGrin (not that he needs itWink)

WannaSplitAPineapple · 29/11/2012 20:59

mumnos Starbucks would be great for a pregnant lady as once she has the baby she'll probably be stopping for coffees so she has somewhere to feed the baby

BluelightsAndSirens · 29/11/2012 21:06

I have 2 to buy so I'm going for a thermal mug for the women (i overheard her say she would like one for her car)

And then I have a man to buy for, he is in marketing, likes computer games, is diabetic and eats all day long.

Any ideas?

Mathsdidi · 29/11/2012 21:08

The best I recieved was a singing reindeer hobbyhorse. It was very weird but proved hilarious as it was ridden around the staffroom, then my toddler dd2 drove me batty riding it around the house for weeks afterwards.

I've got someone easy to buy for this year, but the price limit is proving a little tricky.

MrsHende · 29/11/2012 21:54

Loved the Orla Keily scarf and singing reindeer ideas but both are sold out Sad!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 29/11/2012 22:25

The woman I am buying for is very fond of a glass of wine! So I've ordered her a wine glass that takes a full bottle and I'll get her a bottle of wine to go with it. I hope that's okay!

VoldemortsNipple · 30/11/2012 08:56

I had a young lady to buy for last year. I made her a hangover recovery kit. It contained a cd, a tacky DVD, paracetamol, a bottle of lucosade, a big bag of fried eggs jellies and some posh hot chocolate. She absolutely loved it and so did everyone else.

Needless to say she won't be needing it this year as she has just given birth to identical twin girls :o

Mathsdidi · 30/11/2012 15:58

We did have a DIY cocktail that went down well. The person who gave it put all the individual shots into small bottles/containers and an instruction sheet about how to make it up then wrapped it up in a box. That went down very well.
