So... What do you get your step family whom you have only known since April?

I'm really stuck on what to buy. My dad, who hasnt been an active role in my life since I was 7, got married to my step mum in the summer. She has two kids a few years younger than me and one of them has two DDs aged 5 and 1. I met them all for the first time back in April.

I have presents for the DDs sorted as they're easy to buy for but I have no idea what to buy my dad, step mum and step siblings. I don't know any of them, even my dad, well enough to buy them something personal other than that my step mum likes to bake cakes as she's making her granddaughter's birthday cake. Any ideas? Really stuck. Thanks.

What about a restaurant voucher between them? You could offer to babysit.
Or tins of biscuits per couple.
Or make them something - bound to be appreciated.
Photo frames?

Do you have to buy for the whole family? It doesn't seem necessary to me, especially if you are not even close to your dad. But if you are seeing them, then I would get stepmum really nice hand cream, which is my failsafe woman gift. Step siblings, wine or lovely chocolates as a token (or the biscuits suggested above). As for your dad, nice gloves? scarf? alcohol? Just keep it fairly neutral.

I know it sounds crazy but my default present is a headlamp. So very handy when you need both hands, and fun too!
Of course, this probably won't work for step mum, I second the hand cream, if you bake a lot you wash your hands a lot and they get dried out. (at least mine do). Maybe a hand cream/hand soap set that looks nice in the kitchen?

That's brilliant!
I'm sitting in m&s caff at the moment planning my Christmas shopping. I can put my thinking cap away and just trot to, erm, millets? Halfords, amazon?
6 headlamps later, job done!
Ha, so happy.
(sorry to detail your thread, op)

Are you spending Christmas with them? Or have you agreed to do presents? If not the gifts for the dds would surely be enough and appreciated!

I would board game or something for them all to play at Christmas.

My standby present when i'm not sure what to buy an adult is a photo frame - TK Maxx have some nice ones if you know what their decor is like. Would obviously only work for one adult this time round imagines 4 adults opening identical picture frames

An apron for the baker?

Christmas tea towels? Dunelm usually have some not-too-hideous ones.

Lol whattodoo

I shall be seeing them at Christmas which is why I feel I need to buy them all something, particularly as I know my dad will be buying us something. He's already been asking if my DP would like a bike for Christmas so he can cycle to work (making up for past Christmases where he has not seen us I'm guessing as I'm a bit Hmm as to why he would be spending quite a bit of money on us)

But thank you for the suggestions! Handcream is a nice idea! I'm forever using it so think that would be a good one. Will also look into making things.

whattodo I get them at a sporting goods store. Amazon will have them too! I agree, they are not for everyone. Just people I don't know what else to get.
