Gifts for nursery staff

If your DC go to nursery or childminder, are you buying the staff / CM a Christmas present? If so can I steal your ideas?
My DTs go to nursery and I'd like to get something nice for their key carer and something smaller for the other staff, including the kitchen staff. Any ideas? Don't want to spend too much but equally don't want to look like a cheapskate. There's probably about 10 staff in total.

Thanks in advance

We go to Dobbies and buy nicely wrapped bags of fudge. Boring but doable as there are so many to buy for at a nursery.

Topteach · 27/11/2012 19:05

A bottle of wine for the key worker and a Christmas tree dec for the others. Personalise it in some way. These are great gifts because you get them out year after year. Your child will always be remembered!

Thanks, great ideas! Love the Christmas tree dec idea.

Last year I there were 7 nursery staff in the baby room, including her key worker.

I bought them some gift set smellies from boots in the 3 for 2 offer which were £5 each. but with the offer I only spent £20 on the 6 , but it looked so much more. DD's key worker I bought a box of chocs and a bottle of wine.

I work in a nursery. This is how it works where I am. We get lots of tins of sweets to share and some biscuits and smaller boxes of chocolates. We share them out equally with all the staff. So we each usually get two or three tins or boxes each to take home. There is usually not enough wine for everybody but some prefare chocolate over wine so it works out fine.

Presents are also sometimes given to the keyworker staff of Individual children.

The way we share out the chocolates is lovely because it means that staff such as admin and the cook are not forgotten about.

voldemortsnipple never thought I'd be teaching that to my phone

What individual gifts do the keyworkers like? I was going to do a tray of sugar cookies for the room staff and then ? for her superb keyworker

Parisbanana · 01/12/2012 09:48

We do similar to Voldemortsnipple.
Lots of people buy us tins of Quality Street etc to share. We will usually keep one to munch at work but share out the rest to take home if they are group presents. Wine is popular with me some of us but not others so that works in my favour Grin
Individual presents of course are always kept by the person they have been given to. I have received all sorts... Home made treats and very posh toiletries (we have some very generous parents) like L'Occitane, Ren, and suchlike.
Wine, candles, homemade cards with heartfelt messages which make me glow Smile

I wanted to do something different this year but with two dds at nursery and about 6 teachers in each room, plus additional staff it mounts up! Should I just stick with big tins of chocs?

DH says buy nice tea/coffee and a big ton of biscuits. He's a nurse and they seem to appreciate this?

VoldemortsNipple · 01/12/2012 18:35

redwellybluewelly I think they are happy with anything really. Boots gift sets always go down well.

ScariestFairyByFar · 01/12/2012 20:27

I've made pots of gold for each staff member 7 in total at dd's nursery was going to do lush boxes but there £5 boxes are now £7 Sad

Murtette · 01/12/2012 20:35

DD's nursery sent out a note this week saying that all presents would be shared between staff and asking us to not buy presents for individual members of staff... they linked this into some official guidelines or something. DD moved rooms on Friday so I took in a box of biscuits which I gave to the staff in her old room as a thank you for looking after her for the past year but also made a comment about how I wouldn't be giving another present at Christmas. Last year, I took in a box of chocs on the of the Xmas party and again made it clear they wouldn't be getting another on DD's last day. On both occasions, my thinking has been that its more appreciated to have an unexpected box of chocs than one added to the end of term mountain.

hermioneweasley · 01/12/2012 20:41

Buying for her key worker and another member of the team who DD worships and she babysits fr us! One is getting a box of travel sized Molton brown stuff and the other is getting a sparkly compact and a little make up bag.

mammmamia · 01/12/2012 20:49

Thanks for the ideas. It's great to hear from people that work in nurseries as well as what others are getting. Will def check out boots 3for2 but was also thinking something small from Occitane etc and was definitely planning to include the kitchen staff etc. just need to make sure it doesn't add up too much!

I normally get something for DS's key worker (last year gave her John Lewis vouchers) then a tin of chocolates to be shared out.

peppapignonstop · 01/12/2012 21:06

I usually buy a small box of lovely chocolates and a gift voucher for boots for the three lovely ladies in my DD room and also a big box of chocolates for the rest of the staff.

Iceaddict · 01/12/2012 21:22

I made macaroons for the nursery staff last yr put them in a lovely tin and said enjoy them ASAP, they had fresh cream in. I was short of money and they were made up, it was something that took effort that didn't cost much

redandwhitesprinkles · 01/12/2012 21:22

I was going to put a lottery ticket in a card for all staff then smellies for her key worker-good or bad idea?

mammmamia · 02/12/2012 08:28

I was thinking of lottery ticket too - good idea or not?

OP posts:
MrsChestyLaRue · 02/12/2012 08:57

I thought your idea of lottery ticket was a good one sprinkles, until I realised they might win!!

What if they got the jackpot and all left? That's maybe a present for the last day of nursery so you don't care if all the staff change :)

Francesa · 02/12/2012 09:02

Have always tended to go with wine or chocolates, like the idea of a Christmas dec too! Xmas Smile

mammmamia · 02/12/2012 10:05

I thought that too about the lottery ticket Smile
