Christmas film releases for kids

DS is 8yrs on Christmas Eve and we would like to take him and his cousins (age range 8-12yrs, both boys and girls)to watch a film at the pictures.
I wondered if aybody knows if 'Nativity 2' will still be on then, or if there are any other films that are coming out for kids at Christmas.

Nativity 2 is out now Grin, we were going to go and see it but now dd has seen that the hobbit will be out soon so we may have to go and see that instead Sad.

Went to see nativity 2 on Saturday with dd6 & ds9. Loved it! Would have thought it would still be on near Christmas.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/11/2012 23:37

We went to see Nativity 2 on Sunday. The DC loved it (they are 10 and 13)

Our Christmas film will be the Guardians one (Jack Frost).
DH's turn to cinema visit while I do the Sainsburys shop (in peace with my Nectar rewards) Grin

My DD and Ds (6 and 7) loved Nativity 2 - I thought it was a pile of guff! It's all about the kids though Wink

What age certificate will The Hobbit be?
On the Vue cinema it says its tbc.
It's out on the 14th Dec so may be the DH and DS Dad&Son trip (while DD and I do some female bonding/shopping)

It's on for a walloping 175 minutes (that'll be over 3 hours by the time you add trailers and adverts)

I suggested to DH he splashes out on the Ultimate Arse Luxery VIP seats for comfort Grin

I thought nativity 2 looked funny from the clips.

But it got a no star/Xmas turkey grading in a review in the paper last week.

I want to take dd to see it!

I think 8-12 year old boys would probably prefer the guardians film(sorry can't remember the proper name) nativity look a little young

Marne · 29/11/2012 09:13

70isa-we have been trying to find that out too, i think it will either be pg or 12 (hopfully pg as dd1 is only 8 and very small so not sure if i would get her in for a 12).

AuntieShirley · 29/11/2012 09:43

I prebooked tickets to the Hobbit for me, dd11 and ds9 ages ago. I cannot wait. I have been waiting for the Hobbit to be made into a film since I was 7 years old
Our Christmas film is going to be the Guardians one.
I am also taking ds5 to see Nativity in December as he needs a whole day off school for a hospital appointment in the middle of the day, so will take him after.

If the hobbit is a 12a, you can still take an 8 yo ( assuming you are an adult). Grin
I have a 10yo who has been waiting in patiently for the hobbit to come out. Can't wait. Grin

Remember The Hobbit will only be part of the story, it's going to be 3 films. I'm massively looking forward to it. It's a 12A so no problem taking the 8 yr old as long as she's with you.

Marne · 29/11/2012 09:55

Thank you, i'm pleased i can take dd1, i hope she likes it (its not realy my thing), does anyone know how long the film is?

thegreylady · 29/11/2012 16:07

I dont know how thwy will get three films out of the Hobbit! There were only 3 of LotR and there was so much more material.[missed out Tom Bombadil-my favourite part of the first book].

DoubleMum · 29/11/2012 18:16

I know, but I think they are using the appendices from The Lord of the Rings which Tolkien used to expand the original Hobbit story.

amck5700 · 29/11/2012 19:02

If you are planning on going to the hobbit with a younger child, don't do what I did and scare them rigid on Christmas Eve.

I took my son to see A Christmas Carol (PG) in 3d on Christmas Eve the year the film came out - he was 9 and had happily watched all the Lord of the rings films and other similar movies.

He was terrified!

We had to take him out the cinema screaming and howling - traumatised to the point that he wouldn't even walk past a poster for the movie or down the aisle of the shop with the dvds when it came out in that format :(

i complained to the film licensing board that they had failed to take into account the impact that 3d has and that it should have had a higher rating in 3d.

He still talks about it now :(
