Four year old: playmobil or Lego Friends?

I got her Lego town and a couple of boxes of the pink bricks last year before Lego friends was released, hoping it would be played with but it hasn't much at all, by either my four year old or her older sister.

So, is playmobil a good toy and likely to be played with a lot? My four year old already has a dolls house (not playmobil) with a family (mum, dad, sister and babies) and furniture but it does not get a lot of play.

My daughters tend to role play more, playing school etc and playing with baby doll and girl doll.

So I'm wondering, is playmobil worth a try or is it likely to sit in a box not being used? Should I try Lego friends or Playmobil or neither?!

For a 4 year old Id definitely recommend playmobil. My 4yo dd loves it - she's got quite a bit already and getting more for Christmas. Lego friends is expensive for what you get and the parts are so specific you can only really build it and not take apart and build something else. Too small and fiddly for a 4yo imo - I had the cafe bit returned it.

playmobil is perfect for a 4 yr old and will be played with for years

Playmobil, lego often falls appart and is quite tricky to build (you would probably have to build it for her), playmobil is much easier to play with.

Neither of my dd have ever played with toys much, prefering their own role play games. They prefered lego to playmobile because they could make their own buildings, but they would all rather play camps, schools or read/ watch dvd than play with a toy which has to be used in a set way. Not much help, but I wouldn't invest too much in one type of toy until you find one they like.

My 6 and 3 yo DDs play lots with playmobil. They are getting the city playground for Christmas, usually around £50 but on special at toysrus at the moment for £30Smile

Thus have never really played with the Lego they where given, even mega blocks. Playmobil rocks Grin

Definitely Playmobil! The thing about Lego is that you have to have patience and fine motor skills to build it, not to mention the ability to follow the instructions! And once you have built it, you can't really "play" with it (it comes apart).

Playmobil is very well constructed and gives years of imaginative play, we have an 8yr old and a 4yr old and they both love their Playmobil, we have the Pyramid, the Swimming Pool, a little house, a Christmas scene, knights and dragons, police station, fire engines, helicopters and burglars! Both kids play with all the playmobil without regard to "gender". I would highly recommend it, we've had years out of ours and still have years to go!

I think playmobil's great and my 4 year old DS plays with all the time, but if they're not that into little world stuff it could be an expensive mistake. What about more role play type stuff. I've ordered a puppet theatre and puppets for DS as he loves making up stories.
