A nice doll for DD (2.6)

I'm utterly stumped. The Corolle dolls look gorgeous but v expensive. The Melissa and doug dolls look nice but the outfits look a bit cheap. DD has tiny years but it rarely gets played with as its hard bodied.

If anyone has any ideas of a nice doll I would be very happy.

I gave my kids a peppa doll when they were about that age. They are nothing to do with the cartoon pig, but are a sort of mass produced Waldorf doll. They cost around thirty pounds.

My First Baby Annabelle was/is always popular here. (I'm a childminder, so always lots of testers about!) It's not too big and has a soft body. Cost about £15 from Argos iirc.

Got dd2 (age 4) this one from John Lewis

Nice size and accessories, not too expensive, soft body and non scary face. Ideal.

I was asked to get one from Argos by a friend for her 18 m old daughter for our secret santa (not so secret now).
Maybe this one?

Received this Silver Cross doll for my newborn

I think it's lovely but can't say if she loves it just yet!

Ginismyfriend · 22/11/2012 21:25

DD (2.3) has that silver cross Bronte doll and she loves it - it's a fab doll. Really cuddly and undressable, which seems to be an important feature at that age Smile

DD (2.10) has baby stella and she loves it. Nice size for little hands, soft bodied and cuddly

OhCobblers · 22/11/2012 22:41

Another vote for Baby Annabell. DD got hers when she was 2.10 (though it wasn't her first doll) and is in love with it.

My daughter is 3 and loves dolls so has been bought quite a few by various family members. She has the corelle mon premier, baby stella, an ikea soft doll, several old hard bodied ones and baby annabelle. She loves them all but Baby Annabelle is her total favourite. She occasionally turns on her cry and gives her the bottle/dummy but mostly she plays with her in off mode and I think she likes her best because she is quite big and huggable. I think the corelle and the baby stella are lovely and I would definitely recommend one of them for a slightly younger child- 18 months or so- but at your daughter's age I think I would go for a baby Annabelle. Lots of play value for several years to come and not astronomically expensive either.

Not cheap, but utterly lovely, and bespoke. You could even get one made to your own specifications (size, hair colour, eye colour etc): www.etsy.com/search?q=waldorf+doll&view_type=gallery&ship_to=DE&order=most_relevant&page=0. There are some British makers on there. Or buy a kit and make your own.

This seller does lovely stuff, and is in Europe: www.etsy.com/shop/pingvini. Some of her smaller dolls are not crazy expensive, e.g. www.etsy.com/listing/61318935/organic-waldorf-doll-105-inch.

Do children really like waldorf dolls? They'd better at those prices! £140 for a doll!!!Shock They do look lovely some of them but I think I prefer baby Annabelle! Haba might be a cheaper alternative for that soft doll type idea? Or baby Stella as others have said.

Clothilde · 23/11/2012 06:39

Mine really like their props doll's which are the bottom end, mass-produced version of a Waldorf doll. They play with far more than the standard baby doll theirgrandmother gave them. Having saidthat, they both play more with cuddly animals.
