I need 2 gifts as its his birthday next week and then christmas. He doesn't go out anymore so has no hoby's, just sits in his chair all day watching tv and bossing my nan around Grin. Any ideas?

I got my grandad lottery tickets, as he can't get around much and tends to sit watching tv all day.

Or how about one of those trays with fabric filled with bean bag things on the bottom, so he can eat dinner of his lap

DVD box set? I have a similar problem - DH's grandfather is 93, diabetic, loves books but can't see properly anymore, only likes classical music but has everything he wants, doesn't like TV, and is very immobile so hardly leaves the house. I think the last 4 yrs he's had audio book box sets. This year they are getting a hamper, they're impossible to buy for.

My dad is 88 and only really appreciates getting a bottle of whiskey, brandy or sherry.

I will never forget my 89yo Grandad's face when my cousin gave him a really thick pork chop for Christmas. Honestly it was like watching a 3yo open a huge plastic digger Grin

My dad is in his 80s and has trouble reading. He loves audio-books, though. They are my staple gifts now for Christmas and birthdays.

Waterstones have a nice selection and if he really hates it they will exchange. You can also get a CD player and comfortable headphones for him quite cheaply at somewhere like Argos, if he doesn't already have them.

There are lots of 'historical' comedy CDs, like the Goon Show and Round the Horn, as well as 'proper' books being read by 'proper' actors!

Thank you, some great ideas, i like the lottery ticket idea, i'm not sure if he will like audio-books, a lap tray might be a good idea or a book (he likes classic cars and anything war related).

I'm getting my grandad:

Fluffy hand towel and face cloth

New (Christmas) tea towels (lives on his own...)

Christmassy preserves with whiskey

Home made mince pies

Last year I bought him a bird feeder and bird box for his garden

And always new hankies Smile

He is SO hard to buy for
