If you are giving charity gifts - who to and what are they?

I would like to give my dad a charity gift, as he never wants anything. His only suggestion is Amazon voucher, but he has at least a year's worth of reading waiting for him (not exaggerating). Was thinking possibly a micro financing account, but I know nothing about them.

I'd also like to start a tradition of making a small donation (about a tenner) in DS1's name, based around his interests for now and then when he's older, involving him in choosing where it goes. Current interests include spending time in nature and breastfeeding :o.

Finally, and not strictly Christmassy, DS2 is due in Feb and I'd like to make a donation to celebrate his eventual arrival.

Would be fascinated to hear from others - what are you giving and to who?

I think about £14 would get you a junior sub to RSPB for a year which brings a welcome gift, 1/4ly mags & free entry to sites.
The Born Free Foundation t-shirts have gone down well with young DC or you can sponsor an animal's welfare.
An older family member appreciates anything from the RNLI for personal reasons.

We get them from the good gifts guide - often new pjs and a teddy for children in a refuge from the DC to grandparents, innoculations for third world children from DC to sister/brothers in law or drinking water purification tablets.

I use these little gifts from good gifts as stocking fillers.

And the company in general because they have a very good reputation for getting the money donated to the appropriate project.

The "protect 50 people from river blindness for £8" one is my most-given.
