What to buy 5year old dd that has nearly everything?

Dd is 5, she has so many toys and I cannot think of any toys that would benifit her!

She loves writing and reading at the moment. So I'm thinking of getting a really special note book and nice pen set or something like that. Also clothes and pj's and books. Maybe even a personalised story book.

I don't want to waste money buying things if they are not going to he useful! But also dont want her not to have presents!

Has she asked for anything?

I'd get some nice reading books, even if she isn't able to read them yet she soon will be.

Would this be an idea? My girls love theirs.

She can read so I will get her a few new books! Any ideas?

I don't think she will really have space for the letters!

Innotab or leap pad? They have apps/games for learning and writing plus interactive reading books.

amck5700 · 20/11/2012 11:35

Moving, I have boys not girls so would struggle to suggest something that she would like in terms of books.

My boys liked Dinkin Dings/ Flat Stanley/Mr Gum books at about that age and various other stuff but probably very male orientated. Maybe Michael Morpugo does some for that age group?

I'd head over to the book topic and either ask there or just have a scroll through the threads, there is bound to be one with suitable suggestions already.

There is a book on amazon called 'teacher record book' that is blank registers. It's black with an apple on the front. My dds love them.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 20/11/2012 11:37

Ballet Shoes book
Jolly Postman books

Etch a sketch or Magna Doodle

My daughter and her friends have all adored the Rainbow Magic series of books (they're blooming dull though!);

I love Dr Seuss books

I'm getting Narnia books for my DD (7) this year.

DVDs? CDs?

sadmum1000 · 20/11/2012 15:11

I've just bought a personalised book form It's your story website all about DD5 and a fairy.

DD has asked for a moshi monster sticker studio.
Other things I have picked up are Fashion Angels Velvet Poster set, a stencil book, blingles, and might buy a fairy post box writing set.

Last year I bought the play and pretend school set. A bit pricey for what you get but had good reviews on amazon. Was the best present by far - everytime DD has a friend over they run up to her room to play schools.

If you want a notebook, Next and M&S have nice one with a lock and key.

Does she like crafts at all?

If so, you could buy a box of craft supplies she could dip in to as and when:

Craft caddy here

or you could make up your own box based on one of the themes here

It's a nice thing to have around when friends come to play too ...

shoppingbagsundereyes · 20/11/2012 19:46

Dd has had great fun with the Melissa and Doug sticker face pad. Sounds weird but you have blank faces and can choose eyes, mouths etc

sunnyday123 · 20/11/2012 21:13

Thanks for the suggestion for the amazon school play set -just ordered one for dd aged 5!!! She will absolutely love it!!!!

Movingforward123 · 20/11/2012 23:17

savoy thanks for the idea about the register book Smile dd has been telling me her friend has real registers at home and she really really needs to go to her house as thats the only way she can get them Smile defintly going to order this.

sadmum i love the personalised book idea Smile which one did you go for?
also the play and pretend set looks good, she plays schools everyday so this and the register book will be perfect Smile but she has got this which could be used for schools, but i think the school set is better and she would be very impressed indeed Wink

My kids are very fortunate, they have a lot. However although we can afford it, I didn't have money growing up and as a result I hate waste and buying stuff just for the sake of it - I'd rather save the money for a day when they might really, really want something. So I'd say listen to what she is asking for and then vary the theme. My DD is 10 now and has rather odd ideas but in previous years she has asked for: 1. A tattoo: we got her a henna tattoo kit, she used it loads. 2. A ski holiday: we got her a day at the Sno-Dome, skating, swimming, a ski-ing lesson, she loved it. 3. A servant: no comment Grin Grin. We still tend to focus on experiences rather than things, e.g. tickets to a show or an event like the ballet or theatre, afternoon tea at a posh hotel, a horse-riding lesson etc. A few books and DVDs etc. to open up on the day with one 'special' gift from us and one from Santa - it's easy to overwhelm them when they are only young, better a few well-received things imo.

Cahooots · 20/11/2012 23:51

Tickets to see Matilda? (if she likes that type of thing)

izzyishavingababyAGAIN · 20/11/2012 23:52

books are best from the book people, in sets.

inmyheadimthequeen · 20/11/2012 23:52

I meant to say, the 'experience' gifts come with a bit of build-up, e.g. personalised letter from Santa knocked up on the laptop explaining why he chose that gift especially for her, tickets to something theatrical wrapped inside a book of the story or attached to a helium balloon and so on. This year she's done the afternoon tea earlier in the year so is having a cake stand, a cupcake cookery book, and a bag full of cake decorating kit, sparkles, invitations to tea etc. etc.

Movingforward123 · 21/11/2012 00:09

oh are the book people the ones that do them much cheaper? i'll have a look Smile
