Very roughly. Don't usually use tape, just twist the paper a bit at the end.

Usually wrap one or two bits, the actual present bits. The bubble bath etc remains unwrapped

Never wrap stocking fillers-too much mess and too fiddly for little fingers.

for those that say more time in bed/asleep for you - do you not get up to see your DC unwrap their presents? Or do they bring them into your room and you doze off while they do? Ours have to come downstairs to get their stockings (they're hung on the stairs) - if they were in their rooms, they'd open them in the middle of the night!

Our DS used to come in and open his stocking with us but now he is 11 it is probably not 'cool' to be seen to enjoy it Grin. He's never woken up in the middle of the night to open it, probably helps that he's an only child and not too much excitement about it !

No never - and neither of our parents did either

Yes, FC wraps stocking contents, very roughly, completely unlike my anal style of wrapping, and in his own cheap paper. The DC bring their stockings into our bed to open, but everything being wrapped prolongs the element of surprise.

stopped wrapping them couple of years ago and DD complained, said she would like them wrapped please.so back to the wrapping but in bits of coloured tissue collected over the year. i have six DCs so lots of wrapping.

I wrap everything except the chocolate coins, the pound coin and the orange.

It never occurred to me to wrap but stocking presents here are things like pencils, mini notebooks, cheap bracelets - I didn't know until I read on here that people wrap them.

Report

Yep. Prolongs the excitement which means we get longer in bed! The DCs do get on our bed to open their stockings (and this year we are doing each other one too!) but it means we don't have to get up for ages.

I did random paper last year but sticking to tissue paper sounds good, or I may try and get some 'from Santa' type paper specifically for stockings.

If it doesn't move it gets wrapped! Separate stash of paper of course ;-)

I'm worried now I've missed out a vital part of my kids Christmas and at 8 and 13 it too late to start.

We didn't do Christmas at all when I was a child.

Each of my DCs has separate wrapping paper. I wrap everything except the satsuma and chocolate coins. Then when we go down to open the other presents, their 'Santa' pile has the same paper on.

Tricked DSS before by double wrapping someone else's paper over the top of the box containing his PS3

bedhopper - we do see our dcs unwrap their stockings as they insist on unwrapping them on my bed. But stockings are only bits and bobs. Real presents are under the tree, not opened until everyone is up dressed, has their coffee mug in hand, got a pair of scissors, potatoes are in the oven etc etc - the suspense is half the fun.

I am really surprised at the non wrappers, just because you tip the stocking out and that is it, you can see everything and the whole stocking which has taken hours of buying and putting together is over in 10 seconds.

dh and I do one for each other too cos I am big kid, and told him that was normal in UK and he is dutch

Thanks for the replies. Going by the majority I need to keep wrapping : ) I had been thinking that if I didn't wrap this year DD1, who is nearly 7, would probably question why Santa didn't!

Stockings don't buy us more time in bed as the 4 kids are all under 7! DD1 insists that all presents need to be left downstairs as she doesn't want a strange man in her bedroom when she is asleep even if it is Santa bringing presents!!!

It's not really over quickly steepen, they spend ages picking through and showing each other things and comparing and eating the chocolate

I do the different paper for each child - much easier than gift tags Grin

Our stocking presents are only notebooks and pens etc too, but all presents get wrapped. I don't think not wrapping them is going to be in any way detrimental to the Christmas experience though, just never occurred to me not to.

No one ever said to me it was the done thing. I try so hard! Having said that, I was out with my Danish (grew up in uk) friend and they do things totally differently again, celebrate on 24 th, rice pudding not Xmas pudding, almond in it not coin and whoever gets the almond gets an almond gift (love it)

Well the different paper for each child is a new one for me, and a very good idea. Where would we be without MN?

I thought of it all by myself

I wrap early and put inthe loft, and tags fall off dammit!

I wrap everything, except satsuma and choc coins (which I put in loose at the bottom).

I also use those packs of different patterned sheets you can get, so they are not all wrapped in the same paper. It's pretty that way :)

My stocking bits weren't wrapped as a child, just the pressies in the sack. :D However Dh's pressies were, so I now wrap DS's stocking bits, except choc santa and the orange etc :D
