I judge people on their Christmas cards.

Yes I do. They have to be Charity cards at least, and ideally religious with a pronounced Baybe Jesus. Not a Christmas T-Rex etc.

I didn't realise till I got a warm, fuzzy smug feeling when I bought my Fair Trade cards!

You've been warned!

I stopped sending them about 7 -8 years ago.

Dreadful waste of money and paper!

I make exceptions for my few overseas friends though, but my mantra is, if I don't see someone to give a personal 'merry christmas' greeting, then I don't really care!

I will make the effort to see good friends and do it in person.

I have a secret fondness for the papery ones with poinsetters and robins though, as they remind me of long dead old relatives, they sent cheap ones because everyone and their dog got one!

We've still got a Clinton's thankfully but if it goes, there's always Smiths. Theirs are terribly gaudy.

What is a card holder please? We flop ours over a bit of string, strung between the telly and the fireplace. It looks messy and drives me nuts v festive

I liked the MN Christmas cards - we need some more.

I like the robin ones best Blush

EdsRedeemingQualities · 04/11/2012 12:48

The ones I hate are the cartoony ones people buy in a pack of about 400 from the pound shop. I don't like those ones.

I like sending them, I get nice ones with proper pictures on from the National Gallery and so on. Usually some of it goes to charity.

I'd feel mean not returning cards to people who have sent them to us. It just seems SO rude to do that. I've sent our neighbours cards for 4 years and never got one back, I think they don't 'do' cards. They are nice people, but it still makes me feel a bit rejected.

EdsRedeemingQualities · 04/11/2012 12:48

and btw imo e-cards are vile and pointless. I don't know why. I just loathe them. sorry Blush

Thisisaeuphemism · 04/11/2012 12:53

I like a nice fat Santa card.

If I get a religous one from someone who knows my thoughts on religion I think they are being a bit passive aggressive.

Trills · 04/11/2012 13:09

I think your card would look better matte and slightly textured

BreakfastwithMrsBarderbedian · 04/11/2012 13:16

The cheap robins and baubles fill me with a lovely nostalgic feeling.

My biggest hate is Victorian snow scenes. It can almost ruin my entire Christmas. entire.

PurpleGentian · 04/11/2012 13:17

I bought my Christmas cards in the January sales, not buying any more before the next January sales, so it may be too late for me to avoid social faux pas's.

Everyone's either getting a card with the Three Kings on, or a card saying Peace on Earth, whether it meets their good card standards or not!

MadamFolly · 04/11/2012 15:03

If I were to send Christmas cards they would be terribly inappropriate for the festive season and would have a picture of the African savannah during rainy season or something.

I wonder if that would make my parents more or less cross than not sending them at all? :o

dementedma · 04/11/2012 19:19

Cancer research nice ones with religious theme for rellies and friends. A couple of special individual ones for special people. Don't do cartoon or baubles.

MadMumToThree · 05/11/2012 10:58

Oh yes ariel tis sort of metal circles joined together and cards fall out stick in it - different sizes/shapes are a pain in the arse make it interesting.

Catsmamma · 05/11/2012 11:08

I don't send them AND i do judge those who send them!
...apart from the neighbours...11 that i hand write and send the children out with on christmas eve.
Huge waste of resources!

And I judge on the card inscription too....anyone with

To Catsmamma, Mr Catsmamma and Eldest baby, middle baby, smallest baby

From George, WIlma, pebbles, bash and gideon

Is judged for having too much time on their bloody hands and needs to go out and get a life! Or to spend time more profitably and make some decent MincePies

All mine are signed "Merry Christmas from the CatsMammas." and that's it! :D

ByTheWay1 · 05/11/2012 11:21

Oh god I have too much time on my hands.....

I handmake the cards, (wintery owl theme this year)

do a printed insert on the computer - so they look professional
and then handwrite a personal greeting depending who it is going to -
I also put a little "Handmade with love" sticker on the back of each....

OMG and I stamp a little picture (owls this year ... obviously...) on the pointy join on the envelope - and Handwrite the envelope in big swirly writing...

(can I win a prize for "most pretentious", or "person with too much time on their hands" please - I never win prizes for anything - not even the poxy raffle...)
