Not about stealth boasting or competitive poverty but genuine interest. After many years of Christmas on a budget, we have a bit more to spend. I think we have spent a lot on the teens, dh says its not much. What do you spend, or think is a reasonable amount to spend on teenagers?

Ds1 is 13, ds3 & dd are nearly 5 and ds4 is 20mths ,so ds1 has considerably more spent on him. This year he is getting an ipad plus some other bits and pieces. The others wont have nearly as much, they don't want anything that costs that much.

I think teens christmas presents are alot more expensive than younger childrens and its fair to extend the budget rather than buy a load of cheap tat that will never get used

malovitt · 03/11/2012 20:53

I spend around £500 each on my two teens, plus £50 each on my 4 nephews and nieces.
Thats all I spend.
No adults get anything. Christmas is for children.

dementedma · 03/11/2012 20:57

Oh, OK. So dh is right. We're not spending that much then Grin

I genuinely don't know I'd say £500 roughly but I do buy a lot of clothes etc that she would need anyway, pjs, slippers, bath and body stuff, etc which do add up to a fair bit :-S

dementedma · 03/11/2012 21:10

We had planned on £150 each plus stockings which cost about £30 each probably. That seems a bit meagre now, but its more than we've ever spend on them before.

I dunno, I'd doubt I've actually spent £150 on stuff I wouldn't have to buy anyway - she's got a Disney villains collectible doll at £50 which I never would and a mini fridge about the same price, and most of teh rest as I said, clothes etc. which she would need anyway.

I just like them having loads to open plus a 13 year old girl is very happy opening clothes Grin

booklava · 03/11/2012 21:36

I limit it to £100 per child as we don't have much money. Main pressie is usually about half the rest on a stocking. This year though DDs 1 & 2 have said they'd rather have a bit of cash so it'll be half & half.

everydayaschoolday · 03/11/2012 21:52

3DSD + 2DD - each get about £100 of santa presents inc stockings and clothes (that I buy and shop for); and £100 for a dad/stepmum or daddy/mummy gift (that DH buys). So that's £200 per child.

Lancelottie · 03/11/2012 21:55

Umm... nothing yet

dementedma · 03/11/2012 21:59

Don't worry lance - I haven't bought it all yet. That's just the budget

About £100 -120 on main present, £20-30 on stocking fillers plus books and clothes that we'd get them anyway, stocked up for Christmas.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/11/2012 22:05

Don't shout, but I spend a fortune, but dd is an only child.

This year it is a car (I know it sounds extravagant, but it is an 03 Polo which cost me just shy of £800).

alemci · 03/11/2012 22:19

around £100 at the most. 3 DCs. maybe not even that.

one's had some boots she is already wearing so £60 spent.
