do you feel they don't get as much attention as they would if they had a birthday at a different time of year?
i feel quite sorry for ds because he seems to get forgotten about. eg.no visitors, cards or presents.I've done a tea party for him every year and no family turn up.

im planning to do a party this year on the 22nd and im worried no one will turn up.

My DS's birthday is in November, and his stupid arsehole father said to me 'oh, I'm not getting him much for his birthday, it'll be Christmas soon'. I could have gladly strangled the man, so I said 'don't worry, I'll make his day special then'. Thank god DS didn't hear him, he'd have been rather upset. Miserable man. I think it's so important to make their birthday as special as you can, regardless of when it is in the year.

My DS is December, and we've always done them seperate. Decorations don't go up until after apart from Advent Tree and Elf on a Shelf.

DS was a 1999 birth- so he was :
the last month of the last year of the last decade of the last century of the last Millenium.

Pretty cool eh? Wink

I have a couple of rules that I like to keep for my son's (Xmas Eve) birthday:

  • always mark it with a celebration, whether we're at our house or at relatives - they've always been happy to go along with it. It's pretty low-key stuff, like party food set out on the dining table or whatever, but it's still a distinct celebration
  • give him the present he's been hankering after for his birthday rather than his Xmas - he will always have loads of Xmas presents from other people, but not everyone remembers that he has a birthday as well
  • do a party for him after they go back to school - it's difficult to ensure people will come in the run-up to Xmas, but January is always a bit quieter. I send the invitations out on the first day back for a date three weeks later.
  • I generally buy him a biggish present about half-way through the year as well. I know that's technically 'spoiling' him but I just think it's a long time to go between presents if I stick strictly to the dates.
