Going to start making the Christmas Cake.

DH wants Round

DD wants Square

What do you think?

Fair and square (only that wouldn't be too fair on dh, would it?!)
Square with rounded edges?
Sorry, not very helpful, am I?
You're making it so it's your choice.

I might let the dog decide.

round- i make a lot of cakes and round ones are much easier to ice without making a mess.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2012 21:28

If you are doing marzipan and icing then it needs to be square so that you get 4 corners with the marzipan on three sides.

No Contest-

Hexagonal...

Just to be controversial Grin.

I vote square if you haven't got a hexagon tin.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/10/2012 22:28

I think that round cooks more evenly, but I could be wrong!

lapsedorienteerer · 24/10/2012 22:29

Any shape as long as there is no marzipan involvedGrin.

ArthurShappey · 24/10/2012 22:30

I feel a Christmas cake should be round. Although square cuts easier and is easier to decorate.

joanofarchitrave · 24/10/2012 22:30

Which would you like to make, sister?

Encourage whichever one 'loses out' to make a cake of their own preferred shape.

mrspink27 · 24/10/2012 22:37

Square all the way.... I refuse to make anything else!

PhyllisDoris · 24/10/2012 22:45

Round!

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 24/10/2012 22:50

laps - No marzipan here. [hgrin]

Round. Don't think I've ever seen a square christmas cake!

DorothyGherkins · 24/10/2012 22:52

Well, I d like a square one , please. I think they look good, but more than that, much easier to cut into slices. Round cakes, you always end up cutting a wedge that is either too big, or too small and just collapses into a pile of crumbs.

steppemum · 25/10/2012 17:52

square obviously, because christmas cake is cut in striaght lines, and then smaller pieces to get retangles with icing on the top. Round cakes are cut in wedges no. no. no. Christmas cake can't be eaten in cake shaped wedges Grin

Startailoforangeandgold · 25/10/2012 18:11

My 8in tin is round, I know how much mixture it needs. So cakes are round.

Non rich fruit are ring or star shaped.

I'm out of space for tind

square

Taffraid · 25/10/2012 20:57

I make a square one every year for all the reasons listed above, but most importantly because we start ours before Christmas Day, when people pop in etc and just want a tiny slice. Its very easy to cut a tiny piece of square cake.
