We are planning to have a stall selling stocking filler/fun bits for the kids to buy. So far we are thinking of selling:

  • reindeer food (oats & glitter)
  • snowman soup (hot choc, marshmallows & candycane)
  • reindeer poop (chocolate raisins)

Any other things along these lines that we could do that are cheap/easy to make that would appeal to children?

We do a jam jar tombola at our school fairs that always goes down well. We ask the children to bring in a filled jam jar (with sweets, cheap toys, hair bands etc)that they have decorated. Then at the stall they buy a raffle ticket. If it is the same number as one on a jar, they win that jar.

Also tattoos off ebay - pick the right ones and they work out about 10p or less each. put tattoos on children at fair for 20p each.

We do the jarbola at the summer fair which does really well, but for some reason it is never as popular at the Christmas fair.

Already do tattoos too. They are a great little money spinner as so cheap to do!

ice a biscuit is popular here. we also do facepainting, raffle, tombola, cuddly toy tombola ( ask for unwanted cuddly toys to be bought in) the lucky straw thing. I'm fairly new to it so can't remember them all! We have someone as santa and give out those tubes of sweets as gifts too.

I like that!

Our most successful stall is teddy tombola. Ask pupils to donate a teddy - in our school of just over 300, we usually end up with 100+ usable ones - give the a name and stick on. Kids pay a pound, pull a name out of the hat and win that teddy. Easy £100.

Marking my place to give new ideas as last years Xmas & summer fairs were both rubbish

What about making these and these or these
Pennies to make but you could sell them for more

turnipvontrapp · 20/10/2012 09:03

The cracker game - buy lots of cheap crackers, hide £5 in a cracker and kids pay 50p a cracker and if lucky win the £5 one. Just work it out do you make money on it and don't lose it by giving away too many fivers!

Chocolate tombola - kids donate choc in advance in return for a non - uniform day.

Our biggest fund raiser at Christmas is when we have a raffle for 2 front row seats at the Christmas play!

Bloody teddy tombola is the bane of my life.

My 3 love it and it's definately the busiest stall at the fair.

Arithmeticulous · 20/10/2012 18:54

Best seats at the school play sounds great!

Are you looking for the kids to pay (so sweets, christmassy glow sticks) or the parents (get Book People each in)

We bought a load of stocking fillers from pound shops, tickseed, hawkin etc that we felt that we could add 10-20% on to make money. Took a bit of effort but if we sell everything we should make about £50.

Rgds,

Jo

Our Christmas Fair last year made £2,300 and we are only small and definately not affluent. Theses are some ideas we use.
Some of the mums get together from each year group over a few bottles of wine and have a Craft night.
We make decorations and Christmas tags.
Christmas gift bags with white take-away bags @7p each and decorate them with nice pictures cut out from Christmas paper or last years Christmas cards which we ask people to save and they are collected in January.
We make small Xmas stockings to hang on the tree filled with a little gift ie a rubber, a gold coin and a candy cane.
We fill pretty bottles with boots/Sainsburys own bubble bath and put a nice ribbon and home made tag on them.

Personalised pillow slips instead of stockings.
Lavender bags made from old school red tights, tied with a ribbon and a bell.
Lucky dip bags filled with £1 shop treats

We also give all the children in the school a half pint plastic glass covered in a piece of clear cellophane and secured with an elastic band to take home and fill with christmas chocolates. Then have tombola for 50p and the children love it.

Guess how many raisins in the Chistmas cake and the nearest guess wins the cake.

Christmas crosswords you can find on line are printed and sold for 50p. The correct ones are put in a sack and Santa pulls out a winner and they get a £5 book voucher.

We get 8 staff members including caretakers and dinner ladies and head teacher to put on a Santa beard, glasses etc. We take their photo then we have a Guess Who competition. Again the right enteries are put in a sack and Santa picks out a winner who wins a small sack full of goodies.

Our Secret Santa is fantastic and the children learn the art of giving and absolutely love it. They buy gift vouchers for £2-50 each in advance and then we have a secret shop dressed as a grotto were they come and buy presents for mums, dads, sisters, brothers, nans, granddads, aunts, uncles and friends. Gifts are bought in advance especially in the January Sales often for 50p/£1 (but original cost was £4 to £5) or from China eg shopping trolley key rings, watches, brooches ( source them from EBay) or half price radox/men's shower gel that was £2-50 in Boots/Tesco/Super Drug but we bought for £1-25.
They all get a gift bag (which is a decorated take-away bag described above) which we staple rather than them wrapping the gift and they write a gift tag which is attached to th bag. We made £800 from this alone last year and we only have 250 children in the school.

Hope this helps. X
