We are quite tight for money this year and so are keeping our budget for nieces and nephews to £5 or under. I've had a quick look around online but am struggling to find something that isn't tat.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I am open to a bit of crafting if necessary. However, I would prefer to keep this to a minimum this year as am due with dc2 in Dec.

I got a GORGEOUS little tortoise backpack from Morrisons the other day. It was £4.99, and I bought it for my 2 year old nephew. I am genuinely tempted to keep it for me though! They did a ladybird version too. They weren't in their main shop but in their petrol garage bit.

Also if you have a Home Bargains shop near you go in there. I've bought some fab bits from there. I bought a buzz lightyear dressing-up outfit, a chef dressing-up outfit and a doctor's outfit - for £4.99 each (sizes 3-5yrs, and 5-7 years) Their stock changes all the time...I LOVE going in there and always end up buying some small person a present. I reckon it's impossible to come out empty handed!!! Smile

Lastly, it might be worth checking out The Works and Primark.

Thank you all so much! This is great. So glad I posted! Unfortunately no Morrisons or Home Bargains near me.

MissBeehiving that drum kit is perfect! DH is a drummer so it would be a great gift for us to give.

RhiRhi I can't believe there is a toy kitchen for a fiver! DN is probably past that though. She likes creative, arty things so I will have another look round that site now that I've got DD to bed. 2yo nephew has an older brother who I am pretty sure has passed on Mr Potato Head. The cars art set is i my basket right now for 4yo. He's mad about Cars.

I honestly cannot believe the bargains to be had out there. I'm going to have good read through the three Christmas bargains threads now, which, until today, I didn't know existed!

Happy I don't knit but have decided to have my nan talk me through it learn and knit my Dsis a travel mug cosy. That will probably take me until DC2's birth to get done. Am also in the middle of sewing (verrrrry slowly) some bunting for DD's big girl room so I think, now that I've been introduced to all these bargains, the rest of our Christmas will be shop-bought this year.

Since it has become so much harder to pay for everything the last few years, I've started to make vouchers like bookmarks or bus tickets for anything from music lessons, sports club membership, a trip out to sleepovers, favourite meals, Mum's Taxi rides and that kind of thing. A lot of it is the kinds of things they get anyway, but as I've had to really think about not doing these things to save money they know they're luxuries, and I wanted a way to help make them extra special.

HappyTurquoise · 17/10/2012 19:58

breadandhoney, love the mug cosy idea. I've not leaned how to do those yet!

I started making patchwork quilts for everyone a year or 2 ago, and have got a long way to go with them all!

Someone mentioned this on the bargain thread if useful...

www.amazon.co.uk/VTech-Toot-Drivers-Everyday-Vehicles/dp/B0052KHP0G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1350499282&sr=8-2

Look in Home Bargains they have loads of good quality toys/games under a fiver [mainly £4.99]

Marne · 17/10/2012 20:25

I only ever spend £5 on kids gifts and seem to find nice things for £5.

Book people have some great childrens books.
Amazon often have bargains as does play.com.
Loads of cheap toys in the entertainer sale (craft sets etc..)
Playdough is i good gift and always on offer somewhere (entertainer have a pack of 4 tubs for £2).

breadandhoney · 17/10/2012 20:31

iloveholidays i noticed that on the bargain thread but when i click the link it's coming up as £20. Am i missing something? That'd be great, even for 4mo.

I am also Blush to say I forgot about my 15mo nephew!

Wilkinson is brilliant for kids craft stuff. My two dds (5 and 4) love their stuff.

Takver · 17/10/2012 21:10

These activity card sets from Usborne are fab - they used to be my default cheap present (there's a crafty one too).
