Just wondering what everybody does as all my friends seem to do differently. DD is 4yo and I was going to give her the main present (Innotab) and stocking from FC and a smaller present from me (pyjamas, book, dress)

Some friends only give from FC, others say that their kids want to know why everybody else gives them a present except mummy and daddy, so they have to give one as well....

So what do you do? :-)

Thanks for all the replies, it is lovely to hear how everybody does it differently.

Our family have always opened presents after breakfast, but I know a lot of families that open them after Christmas dinner. I dont know how they wait that long, lol...

We open stocking and Santa present in the morning. As these have generally been big Lego kits for the last few years, or bikes/scooters when they were younger, the morning goes quite quickly absorbed in these. Sobbing in frustration in my case when DS1 chose to go to the bathroom when we were on the final page of his X-wing fighter only to stand on it, undoing over an our of my our hard work. When it was bikes/scooters we'd take them down the beach.
We do have an early lunch though Wink

Fc delivers the presents that he's been storing for us and leaves a stocking of presents from him. For dd's that's things like hair bands, choc coins, moshi monster figure etc.

Ds (3) gets a stocking and pile of presents from Santa and 1 present from us under the tree. Presents from other people are from other people of course.

FC does the stocking only, has stuff in that Mum wouldn't buy. Stocking hung on fireplace, none of this in the bedroom craziness as we round have present opening at 2am!

Main presents from us under the tree. We visit all relatives and they give presents to my children/us and we give gifts too.

That way everyone understands who has bought what and no questions as to why can't FC get me a laptop/money no object.

Yes, always has (same as in both DH and my houses growing up).

Stocking and a decent present from Santa, something under the tree from us, and a birthday present from us the next day. (One of the presents from us is likely to be an outfit though).

Santa stuff is there in the morning, all presents under the tree are opened in late afternoon when we get home from visits and while the turkey is cooking. (Or first thing in DH's house, and late afternoon in my house, if we are visiting).

I am actually thinking about doing a stocking for DH this year as well....

Just the Stockings from FC in our house, but they do contain a lot more than when FC visited me as a child. Stockings collected, filled and replaced at end of beds during the night. Since my DDs have got older and are notoriously bad sleepers, I have regretted this and wished we had left them somewhere more accessible like under the tree or by the fireplace. My MIL does a box of silly presents for the whole family to share and we open this first after breakfast, my DH grumbles about the amount of tat in it but risked serious bad weather in 2010 to make sure we had it ready for Christmas morning. Rest of presents are under the tree but unwrapping strung out during the day, around visitors and food preparation. We have my family around for Christmas dinner and open presents from them, but would rather leave any other unwrapping until it is just the 4 of us. Last year I hid away an extra present for DDs and Dh which only appeared just before bed time when they thought they had had all their presents. That was a success and will repeat this year, although I suspect it won't take long before they expect it.

In this house Father Christmas brings a stocking and one tree present, we also give a few tree presents.

We do presents from relatives (so they can be thanked), one present from us & everything else from FC. I'd rather them have the magic of FC bringing presents for the short time they believe than take the credit. Plenty of time for them to thank us for presents.

All my presents were from FC as a child until I questioned why I never got a present from my parents. (tight wads Grin). Funnily enough, the year after they bought me something! GrinBlush

I also don't get the whole sending everything to FC.
