I suggested a secret Santa this year for my family.
It did take my sis and I about 3 days to explain it to my mum but I think she has the idea now :)
Anyway, the only person no one wanted to get was my bil.
Guess who got him? :(
He is a nightmare to buy for.
He is very wealthy, anything he wants he can get himself, no hobbies other than golf. In past years I have gotten him gifts and been told I buy "random" gifts...? I always try and buy people things they will like and or find useful. Lat year I got him some nice cuff links as he wears them for work.
He is a twat Not very outgoing or one to make much of an effort for others.
Spending limit of £20.
Wtf am I going to get him?

You could get him some personalised golf ball markers (little circles you put on the ground to mark your position if you need to move your ball) and/or a ball monogramming tool to put his initials on his balls.
They seem to be around a tenner each on Amazon. Just type in "Personlised golf" in the Amazon search box.

hmmm....I like the sound of that, thanks

If you have a Sports Direct nearby they do golf balls at a really good price.

I got a general pattern off Ravelry but knitted them in the round - its basically about 6" rib, child's sock diameter when not stretched, increase a few stitches and knit plain for about 9", decrease over the next 1.5" and tie off, top with a pompom.

Shodan · 04/10/2012 21:45

In the round...ummmmm.

I might have to brush up on my knitting skills then Grin

Thanks, mistlethrush.

DH is golf obsessed and agrees about the novelty gifts, whether or not BIL has loads of money.

this book doesn't look much but is aerial photographs of the 50 st famous courses in Britain

He also has this book www.amazon.co.uk/Golf-Courses-World-365-Days/dp/0810958937/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1349383565&sr=1-2 which he likes

My dad is impossible to buy for, but I had great success with this book which he quote at me at great length.

I think there is a hardback version which would be nearer £20.

WineGless · 04/10/2012 22:02

Ooh thanks Mary, that will do as stocking filler for DH as we don't appear to have that book in our house must be the only one

mistlethrush · 04/10/2012 23:41

You don't have to knit it in the round - you can always do a seam up the side...

IWishIWasAFrog · 05/10/2012 00:04

A very nice bottle of wine and Christmas lottery tickets to make up the £20 balance. Who knows...

Tinkerisdead · 05/10/2012 00:23

My dh is golf mad and i'm def stealing a lot of these ideas. I had success once getting a personalised golf towel done for dh in colours of his golf bag. I had message from dd 'when i grow up i want to be your casdy Daddy" he loves that the most. Oh and i had some shoes done with his initials and lucky number but they were more than 20.00 but still going strong after years.

Booze. Just get him booze! I have a BIL like that and get him fancy whiskey.

Finding this thread very useful for ideas for my 'difficult to buy for' parents who we are visiting for Christmas this year. So far, it's alcohol or golf balls Grin
