Can anyone help me find a dolls house?

I'd like to buy my dd (just turned 3) a dolls house for christmas. I saw one in ELC that was really nice but it was £160 and I'm not sure whether that will go on sale before christmas.

I've also been looking online and love the Kidkraft houses, especially the ones that can fit barbies as I think that will last her longer and she wasn't too interested in the wooden dolls that come with some houses.

Just wondered if anyone can recommend any good ones?

This is the one I'm getting DD. All of the le toy van houses are lovely. This is the best price I have seen for it.

It won't fit barbie in though (well I don't think it will anyway). Have you done some research on the cheapest places for the kidkraft one? They vary widely.

This site is usually the best price for kidkraft stuff. They have a big dolls house with furniture for £90 (the seaside house - bottom of the page on the link).

If you do decide on the elc one, they usually do a sale in the october half term, so at least hang on untill then to see if they do reduce it. That has been there best sale near to christmas in the last few years.

Also the codes SAVANNAH or SAFARI, or BC0812 or BC0912 will get you 20% off online (not sure which ones are still active so you will have to try them out, but all are recent).

I got a lovely Kidkraft one last year through a Groupon offer. Just had a flick though my old emails and it was mid November time, (although the offer was on a few weeks before that and I missed it) £59.99.

Smyths also had them in last year, I think they were £80 or £90. I was about to get one when I saw the Groupon offer, I do love a last minute bargain Grin

Toys r us do a plain one, 3 storeys, including loads of furniture and 5 family members for £50 (on offer instead of £75 or £100) every year. Ours has lasted 6 years and still going strong. It's not the prettiest compared to some but if you are crafty, you could easily paint the outside a duck egg blue with a pink roof from taster pots and maybe 'wallpaper' it with wrapping paper. I also used scrap fabric to make curtains and rugs and every so often my girls do a 'changing rooms' on it.

Thanks for your help (and for the links, those houses are lovely too). I guess it doesn't have to fit Barbies, just bigger than the wooden dolls as she didn't seem too bothered about them when she saw them at a toddlers group we went to.

I've just googled and saw an old post on hotukdeals about the elc one, it did go down to £80 and people also used a code to get an extra 20% off so I def won't be paying full price for that.

Also found the old post for the groupon one, that looks fab. Really hope I see a simlar deal this year. Think I'll hold off and hopefully get a bargain. Thanks again for the help :)

Sorry Boony, took so long typing I missed your post. I was actually quite tempted by the toys r us one and read that other people have decorated them. It's a great price but it was just the dolls that put me off, might try have a look at them in store as I've only saw it online.

The elc codes work on a pattern if that helps BC (birthday club) 09 (September) 12 (2012) so currently BC0912 but next week will be BC1012

janx · 25/09/2012 19:02

Whereabouts are you? I have a lovely one that dd hardly ever played with. Was going to put it on eBay

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 25/09/2012 19:06

Lundby ones are great, they are classic, have real life looking poseable dolls and you can buy lighting kits so can lluminate it when she's older. you can get mini curtains, etc. Much more longevity than the wooden houses.

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 25/09/2012 20:26

I've never heard of lundby houses before so I've just googled them, wow! I actually love the one with the swimming pool and have just looked at all the extras. Never mind for my 3 year old I think I want this for myself, love all the extra kitchen bits you can buy and the little christmas tree.

The good thing about the ELC one is that there are lots if additional add ons (e.g caravanette, conservatory, stables) that relatives can buy for Xmas presents (last year they even did a Farher Christmas with sack, tree etc)!

liability · 25/09/2012 21:31

Yes Lundby are fab, aren't they? Another alternative is Dolls House Forum, they have a blue house which you can give a child with wooden furniture and then decorate and furnish it with the grown up stuff as they grow older. Again you can light it when DD is older.
