I want to make my mum a hamper of treats to pick at from the dc for christmas. We are very close spend most days together, she is going through chemo at the minute but should be finished by christmas depending on what they decide to do next. Id like to make her a hamper of treats from the dc as shes been feeling really grim. I was thinking maybe some choc, shower gels ( no bath) and laminated drawings from the dc. What else can i do/include.

Thanks. Id like to make it really special. Her illness is being controlled but other than handking the pain, no good so far. I try not to dwell on what could and will but its hard. I think some personal things will help and just brighten her days.

You must be doing a great job of looking after her.

Waitingforastartofall · 17/09/2012 23:39

I did a one for an MNer on chemo at Christmas last year, I seem to remember I put in
Favourite sweets
Bed socks
Lip balm

And other stuff I've forgotten. What about a mAgazine with subscription? A nice photo book? Really luxuriant moisturiser, bath oils, exfoliating glove, cd or iTunes voucher, what about tickets for the two of you to do something? Cinema/ theatre/ meal....

APombearsPicnic · 17/09/2012 23:50

The drawings are a fab idea! What about some candles or you could get her a voucher for a massage or manicure? I hope that the chemo helps your mum and doesn't make her feel too ill. Smile

BeaWheesht · 17/09/2012 23:52

Also my dad is in hospital at the moment- you can get greeting cards where you or your cam record a message to play each time the card is opened

BeaWheesht · 17/09/2012 23:53

You or your dc can....

Skin gets so tender on chemo, gentle products are necessary - ones which are ph neutral. The simple range is good; posh smellies and things are often too harsh. Gentle mouth wash, mints etc because the mouth can get very sore and is often dry and stale. Hands and feet can become very tender, so a really gentle, soothing cream might be nice.

Oh - and warm, soft things because chemo makes you feel the cold a lot more than usual.

KinkyAllTooOrangeDorito · 18/09/2012 17:49

Soft sleeping cap if she has lost her hair. Fruit sweets as mouths can be incredibly sore. CD of a talking book if she is too tired to read or favourite DVD boxsets to watch. Soft clothes like joggers/lounge wear. I like the idea about something for just the two of you to do together. Perhaps see if any spas do specialist treatment that she will be okay to have? At our hospital, they have a place that does beauty treatments for patients.

My DD is still having chemo, although maintenance isn't as tough going as intensive is. It is shit. I hope she starts to feel better soon. Thanks

Waitingforastartofall · 18/09/2012 22:00

Thats a good idea thank you, she really wanted another tattoo and they obviously wont do whilst she is on chemo so shes been abit down about this, even tho its for the best. Thank you for all your lovely comments and hope things go well for your dd too ( id do flowers but im relatively new and keep doing them wrong!)

You say she wants a tattoo? Does she need to wear lymphatic sleeves at all? You can get one with tattoo designs on Grin they are really cool. Things like lip balms, body creams, head scarves, gloves and wooly socks seem to be well recieved also.

newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 04:06

Re the pictures idea... The other day I saw these photo frames that are a4 sized and they have a slot in the top so you can just slide a new picture/ painting in without messing about removing the back. I think it was wilkinsons... In fact, it definitely was.

All the gps are getting these this year Wink

Waitingforastartofall · 20/09/2012 09:55

thats a good idea i never manage to get the photos straight! yeah we got her a sleeve of tattoo designs but she wants a family name adding to her tattoo. Hopefully she will be able to soon.
