Best children's tablet for 5-7 year olds - Innotab or anything better?

I'm looking for a tablet for my 2 DS's for Christmas, aged 5 and 7, I've been looking at the innotab but am concerned it's a bit babyish for my 7 year old. If anyone could recommend any one in particular I'd really appreciate it. They love games like angry birds and cut the rope. Budget is around £100. TIA

Thanks for that, hadn't thought about the kindle fire but it looks great, possibly worth the extra £29 and my eldest has been banging on about wanting a kindle so this would kill 2 birds with 1 stone Grin

DC (5) has a LeapPad. It's fantastic. As well as buying game cartridges (£15+ although there are often deals) you can download from the LeapStore and the Apps are good value. The camera and video camera are good too. DC is hooked on his.

Chocolate, the leapad is under £50 just now on amazon so it has caught my eye.
Can you get the angry birds app for it?

(another angry birds daft DS here!)

How about the Kurio? A friend has just got one for her 7 yr old and both the 9yr old and 3 yr old siblings love it too. It comes pre-loaded with lots of apps and stories etc.

pigsinmud · 17/09/2012 20:45

We got the leap pad for dc4 last Christmas when she was 5.5. Tbh she hasn't used it much. Her older brothers have iPods and I have an iPad and the leap pad can't compete with those. She liked it when she first got it, but hasn't used it much in the past 4 months.

I would be tempted by the kindle fire for him. The reviews aren't great- think the google nexus 7 is better, but that is more expensive.

Our son who is almost 8 and asking for a tablet for his birthday. He has mentioned Samsung Galaxy 3, Kurio or Hudl. Can anyone advise?
We are not that knowledgeable about these products.

undertheduvet · 28/09/2014 23:29

We got a hudl for ds1 last christmas hes 8. Does everything he wants it to do namely minecraft and you tube for stampycat videos. Was good value plus if you have clubcard points you can use them.
The hudl actually died last week , the screen wouldn't turn on . Phoned tesco and they sent a replacement the next day, no questions was pretty impressed with the customer service.

DS (5) has a nabi. You can put your own DVDs on to it and download apps from the amazon App Store. Has a parent mode to use like a normal tablet and you preapprove all websites and content there. It came preloaded with loads of stuff and has a chore bit where they earn points for helping to buy apps

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/10/2014 23:14

I'd vote for the hudl as well (but wait a couple of weeks before getting ).

Both my DC have innotabs and while ds 3 loves his dd 6 choose to spend money made from a toy cull on an Android tablet and much prefers it.

I can't link it on my phone but it was from Amazon a duel core allwinner, it was about £40. The reviews are hit and miss but we have found it to be fab - SF watches films and iplayer, plays alsorts of Android apps with no problems and you can download the kindle app to make it into an ereader.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 04/10/2014 08:16

I ordered a £40 'kool' tablet off amazon for my boys. They have had a leap pad and innotab before and loved them but wanted something a bit more tree flexible yet cheap
They are 5 and nearly 7
It's not arrived yet but reviews are good

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 04/10/2014 08:16

I don't know why there is a random 'tree' in my last post

Earlytorise · 04/10/2014 12:03

What is the difference between an android and a tablet? ( I have not a clue about any of this)

I now need to get my 4.5 yo DS one for educational apps, (but he will also want to watch iplayer and access Youtube) a camera would also be useful. I was toying between the Kindle Fire and Hudl.

Downloading the Kindle app sounds like a good idea mama, does anyone know if this can be done with most tablets/androids or do they all have there own e readers like the hudl (is blinkbox any good?)

I'm watching this thread with interest...

mamabluestar · 04/10/2014 20:41

I only have experience of android gadgets (tablet and smartphone), which is Google's equivalent of apple's I gadgets. If you look on google play these are the apps that can be downloaded onto an android. I've had the kindle app on a couple of different devises

This is what dd has

Don't get a children's one, just the best normal tablet you can afford.

Our hudl is a bit creaky - runs slowly etc - but is robust and with points was almost free so we got it to see how DC got on with it.

They (7, 5 & 3) can all use it and love it. I was sceptical before dh purchased but am now a convert. Just would like a better one now, or one that is all mine Smile
