DD too old for dolls pram at 7?

DD will be 7 and a half at Christmas and wants one of those lovely (but mega expensive) silver cross coach built dolls prams. Height wise it is fine. She's always been very mature for her age (wanted an ipod last year so this is a surprise). She has been playing with her dolls a lot this year. What do you think, is she too old? She doesn't want a regular buggy and anyway they are too small, just this one type of pram.

I think that a year down the line its going to be collecting dust! Could you get one second hand or perhaps convince her about a different pram Hmm

liability · 16/09/2012 15:12

The second hand ones are expensive too unfortunately. She is set on this specific type, she has a regular cheap pushchair which is falling to bits. She doesn't ask for anything really unless prompted hence why I'm debating getting this. If she was a faddish child I'd certainly dissuade.

Anyone's 7 up girl still play with these, what age do they outgrow dolls?

Aw. I would say yes and resell if it will hold it's value.

liability · 16/09/2012 15:32

I thought she might also want to keep it and pass down to her own child. I am talking myself into this, I think. I makes such a nice change from the usual request for gadgets or stationary!

I'm [shocked] she already has asked for christmas presents! I know which ones you mean, my dd loves them she is a year older than yours. I think my dd loves them because they look so luxurious and would want one just for the sake of having something so beautiful but not really to play with

My dd still plays with her pram occasionally but I think this is the last year she will. Is there anything else smaller and beautiful she would like? My dd loves 'special' things so this year I'm thinking of starting her with a charm bracelet. Last year I got her a beautiful old fashioned jewellery box.

Could you wait until nearer the time in case she changes her mind?

SugarBatty · 16/09/2012 15:40

Shock sorry!

rockandahardplace2012 · 16/09/2012 15:48

I was still playing with dolls when i was 12 Blush so i dont think shes too old, I think those sort of prams are beautiful and like you say she could hand it down to her dd Smile

DharmaBumpkin · 16/09/2012 15:50

My DD (8) wanted one last year, and is still playing regularly with it now :) I say go for it if it's what she really wants!

liability · 16/09/2012 15:51

yes I'll certainly wait a while before ordering. They were in the window of our local posh baby supplies shop with a sign saying 'order now for Christmas', hence she asked...

Oh, that's good to hear older girls use these. I'll see if she sticks by her wish and what is the latest we can order.

My dd is 7 next month and is desperate for a big doll (design a friend) from Argos! She has a similar doll and she plays in the house with it all day! Her and dd age 5 play games with them all the time - even strap them in car seats etc! I love that they haven't outgrown them and both getting new ones for Xmas. They also fight over the mamas and papas dolls pram!

I would always encourage younger toys for as long as possible

liability · 16/09/2012 17:33

That's good to know sunnyday. She has so many grown up interests that I too would like to encourage her to carry on with her dolls. She doesn't play with baby dolls anymore, more those mini-me types (Kidz n cats, gotz, etc) but they all get strapped into the old buggy.

I got all my best doll kit (doll, bath, buggy etc) at 10 or 11. I have just given that doll to my daughter (and now I'm trying not to be too precious about it after it stayed in perfect condition for more than 20 years Grin) OP, your DD could get 4 or 5 years' use out of the pram, or you could benefit from good resale value.

liability · 16/09/2012 21:14

Great, more in favour than not. I will see if she sticks with her wish and if so will get it for her. Thanks all!

My DD is 8½ and she still plays with her dolls and pram a lot.

haggisaggis · 20/09/2012 11:13

Well my dd (10 last month) got a new doll's buggy last Christmas as her old one was too small - and she still plays with dolls. I think she would have loved a silver cross pram but dh thinks they take up too much space.
