Kindle Fire for 9yr DS ?

Is anyone else considering buying their DC a Kindle Fire for Christmas ?

My DS loves using my IPad, so much so I hardly ever get to go on it ! I have been looking to buy him a tablet PC and am now considering the Kindle Fire.

I have looked at the Kurio, but think it is aimed at younger kids and the Fire seems to do more and is actually cheaper than the Kurio and is also cheaper than the Nintendo 3DS which is another gadget He has expressed an interest in.

I'm a bit concerned that as he is used to the iPad, the Fire may be too basic.

I know the fire hasn't been released over here yet, but was wondering if anyone has any views ?

I pad mini been announced as £269 so that's off the list. Shame - had been v excited about it.

Tell me about it SadMum, was going to get ds1 one but cannot stretch that far. Thinking of the fire now, looks good.

I have been researching as originally going to get Ds an iPod touch but new ones out at £250 which is really expensive ,playbook looks a good option-64gb .
It has flash player which iPad doesn't and you cab use YouTube iplayer etc.

There is a new Blackberru tablet out beginning of 2013 which is why they have reduced the playbook price .
Not a load of apps but I think enough for what my children would require. Also you can sideload some android apps on to it .

Think it has kobo ereader but you can download kindle app on to it .

It's not an iPad by anymeans but I think it's good value for money and will tick the boxes for Ds requirements ?

Hi
What apps can you get on the play book ? Can you get angry birds and cut the rope etc ?
Also can you use Iplayer ?

You can't get as many apps as with others but you can def get angry birds and I'm sure cut the rope too.
You can get iplayer and it supports flash media so they can play moshi monsters if that's their thing (which they can't do on iPad)

my borother swea\rs by his playbook, hes a bit older (30!) but he has all the apps such as angry birds etc. Ds1 has a playbook too and goes to that over the ipad each time.

ds2 is 10 and would like the kindle fire as he has a temperamental origional kindle so he'd like o keep with kindle and just update. the fire has the added bonus of having internet on it too. the google nexus was our other option with kindle app. the downside to both including the fire being that i didnt want somethign that was backlit as wanted something without the shadows and glare and easier on his eyes for reading in bed.

My 11 year old has an ordinary kindle, and he gets to use my iPad at my discretion. He reads a hell of a lot, I doubt he would if he could play games on it! He also has a netbook, but it stays in the living room and is also time limited. He is only allowed to take the kindle to bed, which means he has just finished all of the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy books and is starting on Terry Pratchett. I'd rather he was doing that than angry birds or mine craft!

My dd aged 9 has decided she'd like a tablet for Christmas. The nexus looks quite good, lots of apps on the google play site.
