Christmas presents for the 2 year Olds who has everything

I am completely at a loss as to what to buy/ advise relatives to buy my DS for Christmas. To make things worse his birthday is in Jan too. Thing is he doesn't actually need anything- he has loads of toys and clothes. I'm going to put most of the money I would spend into his bank account but I'd like ideas for in expensive things and gifts relatives could buy

Playmobile type sets?

Craft stuff?

My ds who is 2 will be getting a big new garage, brio and happy land toys from elc.

I'm assuming he will be 3 on his birthday, so a year younger than my DS who is also a Jan birthday. Last year we asked for a balance bike from my parents which he just loves, my sis and BIL bought a lovely set of Beatrix Potter books, and Santa brought a scooter. I absolutely hate trying to clear out in December as with Christmas quickly followed by birthday the house ends up feeling like a toy shop. Not sure whether you are a cartoon fan or not but we have some good DVD box sets - again Beatrix Potter is popular in our house, or the Toy Story Trilogy maybe as if he is going to be 3 he is about the right age to watch at the most basic level. Last year we also put all the Christmas and birthday money into an envelope and we've used the money to buy things throughout the year, as it seems an awful long time between events when your birthday is at that time of year. HTH

For that age, I would be thinking of very small token presents for him to unwrap (book, toy car, colouring stuff, even a CBeebies magazine) and then money to either put in his savings account or keep to maybe buy something later in the year when he might like something. I also think kids with winter birthdays tend to get much less in the way of garden/outdoor toys, so you could get some of those now and put them away

I have the same problem with my DD we have everything, she gets bought a lot and we have hit it right with the hand me downs so she has full sets of everything from friends!

I am going for gifts that can be added to her existing stuff, like more happyland sets, and some stuff for her dolls house.

We all clubbed together and bought her an amazing playhouse for her birthday, could you do something like that? Granted december is not the best time of year for it, but he is only 2 and will be just as happy with a few 'disposable' presents like craft and colouring sets on the day, and you could get it and build it in early spring.

Has the added bonus of being somewhere to keep all of her toys because the house is swamped.

I have the same problem: DS doesn't need anything and his 3rd birthday is in February. ILs are really into buying extravagant, inappropriate presents so I'm heading them off this year by making a list of DS 's activities and suggesting that they 'gift' one of the following:

  • a term of swimming lessons
  • a term of mini-nastics
  • a season ticket to our local zoo
  • a season ticket to our local children's farm

Balance bikes rock but if he had everything, i'd guess you havevone and a scooter.

Do you have any orchard games? Red dog blue dog etc.....hours and hours of fun.

Alternatively just buy him stickers, slime bugs and punch bag balloons its what they love the most!

I'm in a similar situation with my DS2 who will be 2 just before Christmas. He has loads of toys!
I have bought as 'main' presents 1 for birthday and 1 for Christmas: The Ikea easel/whiteboard with paper, pens, chalks etc

A pop up play tent (also Ikea Blush)

Both fairly cheap and hopefully sturdy enough to enjoy for a little while!

Good books - the Thomas set? Pop ups? Books that you won't mind reading over and over again. Or a really good crafty set, one those ones that has loads of stuff in it so you won't have to buy crafty stuff for ages.

Season tickets ideas fab.

Failing that I would tell them a 2 year old does not need that lots of presents and to save their money for when they are older and it is more meaningful.

Chocolate bar & a load of boxes wrapped up in shiny paper.

At that age my dd just liked quantity, we wrapped up lots of little bits and put them in a big box (wrapped up too).

  • bubble bath
  • novelty sponge
  • small toys
  • new cd of songs for the car
  • socks
  • hat & gloves
  • underwear
  • choc/sweets
  • wooden jigsaw
  • bouncy ball
  • Happyland people
  • crayons
  • colouring book
  • paints
  • tubs of playdoh
  • cookie cutters

Relatives added a couple of bits to the box and gave us some money/vouchers to use throughout the year or add to bank account.
DD has a December birthday within a week of christmas
