Onadietcolabreak · 12/09/2012 13:50

Can anyone recomend and good games for my DCs this Xmas?
I have a few already, but as there ages range from 1 to 12, I'd like a family game that DD2 can join in a bit or am I dreaming to have us all sitting around smiling Christmas night? Wink

We already have
Pictionary
Monopoly
Cluedo
Scrabble
Kuplunk
Twister
Eliefun
Red rover

TIA

I'm not sure how well a 1 yr old could join in well actually I can imagine exactly what a one year old might do, how about Jenga? That always goes down well.

Hungry hippos was a childhoold favourite of ours, the youngest might be able to join in a bit with that, or perhaps just eat the balls Grin.

Orchard toys do great little board games for the little people, but thay won't be of any intrest to the older ones, so won't work as a whole family game, but nice enough to warrent a mention.

There's a peppa pig version of snakes and ladders my family enjoy

WhatWouldVegansDo · 12/09/2012 17:55

Pictureka.

lljkk · 12/09/2012 17:56

Mancala.
I can't think of anything a 1yo could do except maybe chase a die around the room. Twister?

cmt1375 · 12/09/2012 17:57

bananagrams
uno
lego board games in general

SharonGless · 12/09/2012 20:26

Charades for kids - got it in b and m at the minute. Really good and has some cards with pictures on for younger children
UNO
Cranium
How about bingo- good family fun

Labyrinth
This is good from about 5 or 6 up, and is still fun played just between adults. But even our three year old enjoys watching, helping move the pieces around.

For younger children look at HABA games. My 3 year old loves The Little Orchard and Animal upon Animal

The brand is German, but all instructions are provided in German, French and English. And if you lose a die or other part, a very friendly customer service replaces it pronto and free of charge if you ask nicely.

Looking at getting her the Sleepy Princess and the Pea game for her 4th birthday.

For older children and adults I heartily recommend Carcassonne in all its permutations

Oooh, OOOh Question Grin

Y'know 'Trivial Pursuit'- I've got a really old versions (probably mid/late 90s)

The DCs wouldn't have a clue about that era (though it might make it easier for DH and I to win).
Do they sell updated questions boxes?

My DC discovered the old Cleudo set so we played that.
And dominos.

I'm on the lookout for new games too Grin

oreocrumbs · 12/09/2012 22:01

They sell the question cards on ebay.

Haven't looked properly but they all seem to be second hand. Cheap enough to keep updating your set though.

Onadietcolabreak · 13/09/2012 22:03

Thanks all Smile
UNO and charades I think are going to be great.
I know DD2 won't be able to play yet, but watching quietly would be a dream Grin

sharongless sorry, but what's B & M?
Jenga! Why didn't I think of that!

I love games, but think the older two would rather play phones/computers! Trying to convert them Wink]

Ticket to Ride (for 8+) was recommended to me in MN and has been a big success (...thanks whoever that was..)

SharonGless · 13/09/2012 22:12

B&m is bit like ppundland, also known as home bargains and quality save. Have you got one near you?

nancerama · 13/09/2012 22:14

Don't get UNO. Get Uno extreme with the launcher. Hours of fun!

Onadietcolabreak · 15/09/2012 20:56

I think there's a home bargins near me Smile
I've looked at the UNO extreme! I think DD2 would love just watching that one!

Cranium cadoo, is for up to 12 years, my DSS loved it, and has just this last year at 13 progressed onto proper cranium.

Good family fun, but can't see your 1 YO doing much acting Grin

WeAllHaveWings · 21/09/2012 12:19

for the young (and old) our absolute favourite games are Frustration and UNO extreme.

ds(8) plays these with his elderly gran/granpa on a regular basis and we have a great time. They are short, very simple games but can get very competitive!

cornflakegirl · 21/09/2012 13:02

Blokus and Quirkle. They're both strategy games, but the pieces are suitable for making patterns or playing matching games too, so you can alternate a proper game with a pattern game, or just let the little one play with some of the pieces.

My youngest also likes rolling the die for everyone else in pretty much any board game.

Katienana · 21/09/2012 13:45

I don't know if there is a kids version, but Rapidough is loads of fun. You play in 2 teams, each team picks a card, the modeller for that round has to make whatever is on the card and their team has to guess what it is. The other team is guessing at the same time. Fastest team wins, and gets to take away a piece of the losers dough.
Thinking about it you could probably fashion something similar using playdoh, a cookie cutter and some flashcards!
